About Lukas Fitze

I run strategic development at iart, a studio for media architectures based in Basel and known for seamlessly integrating the digital with physical spaces, thus engaging innovations like sustainable media facades and mixed reality platforms to create smart city interfaces, for example, visitor experiences such as Novartis Pavillon which houses the “Wonders of Medicine" multimedia exhibit; the urban mobility themed Schindler Visitor Center; and the Hyundai Pavillon showcasing hydrogen power at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, to name a few. Starting out at Publicis (Zurich) early in my career, I soon became a Swiss transplant to New York, cutting my teeth at agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather. The rise of digital technology found me working with the pioneering streaming entertainment platform, MCI Music World, a gig that prepared me for my expansion into the realm of public diplomacy, working with Presence Switzerland (an arm of Swiss Foreign Ministry), where I brokered partnerships with local NY institutions, created platforms to showcase Swiss science, politics, art, design, architecture and produced one of the earliest social media platforms in use by a govermental agency, Swiss Roots, targeted at Swiss living abroad and aficionados of Swiss culture.Beyond Presence Switzerland, I continued to work in nation branding, culture marketing, producing business, cultural, and tech initiatives. Clients ranged from the fields of architecture, art, tech, and academia: raumlaborBerlin, Storefront for Art & Architecture, City of Berlin, ETH Zurich New York Outpost, and Basel Area are a few notables. In 2018, I joined iart, a studio for media architectures where my role in strategic development in many respects it can be described as using my network skills to create the optimum conditions for innovation to happen. iart is at the cutting edge of digital technology, working with architects, developers, urban planners, museums, and brands to realise distinct creative visions, applying a combo of emergent practices and traditional tech to tackle complex engineering and scenographic challenges. In my role, I “midwife” these projects into being by bringing the right resources and people together at the right time.

  • Presence Switzerland / Consulate General Of Switzerland
    Director Of Marketing & Communications
Presence Switzerland / Consulate General Of Switzerland 2005 - 2012
    Bern, Bern, Ch
As a direct result of the Swiss Peaks Festival, I was offered to position of Director of Marketing and Communications for the Swiss Consulate in New York. One immediate aim was to continue to promote contemporary Swiss culture. Another was to provide a public diplomacy channel for the Swiss Consulates, and the Embassy in Washington DC. Drawing upon my digital entertainment past, I conceptualized an online community targeted at North Americans of Swiss descent—and an extended audience of people interested in Swiss culture. The result was Swiss Roots, notable for being one of the earliest online community platforms: a lively dialogue of grassroots and online interaction. A novel direction in nation branding, no country had undertaken outreach of this nature before. With Swiss Roots, Switzerland was the first.Initially hosted by online travel agency, IGOUGO, with Swiss Roots 2.0, aided by LA based IT firm, Headwire, we switched to the open-source CMS platform, Magnolia. The pay off was extensive user experience and content / design flexibility. Fairly new at the time, sites like Swiss Roots helped to evolve Magnolia into a robust system. Conversely, the new format, expanded Swiss Roots— Helvetica Bold became its lifestyle spinoff. The site generated traffic via online marketing promotions: Swiss International Air Lines, a t-shirt merchandising line, a spokesperson campaign featuring— folk singer Jewel, NFL star Ben Roethlisberger, and NBA star and Thabo Sefolosha. Key to the job was the task of fundraising. I brokered numerous sponsorship and partnership deals, among them: UBS, Credit Suisse, Swiss International Airlines, American Airllines, Jet Aviation, Swiss Re, Nespresso, Rolex, USM / Modular Furniture, Vitra and Tag Heuer, and Swiss governmental agencies: Switzerland Tourism, Pro Helvetia, and the Swiss Foreign Ministry. After five years of robust activity, Presence Switzerland changed its strategic focus, and Swiss Roots was phased out in 2010.
