Lukas is a dedicated husband and father to twin girls and spends his free time fishing, foraging, hunting, camping, and cooking his way through the great outdoors. Lukas is the executive director at Sportsmen for the Boundary Waters, lead chef for Modern Carnivore, and a wild foods contributor for MeatEater.Lukas Leaf is an avid, passionate outdoorsman and chef born and raised in Minnesota and has spent the majority of his cooking career specializing in wild game and foraged ingredients. From weekends on the ice in his family's fish shack on Mille Lacs Lake to spring fishing trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, connecting with nature and our cherished wild places has long been cemented as a way of life.Founded in 2015, Sportsmen for the Boundary Waters was established as a hunting and angling voicefor protecting the BWCA from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining. Since its inception, SFBW hasworked to protect the integrity of the BWCA and its watersheds for huntable and fishable populations of fish and wildlife through advocacy and education. Our mission is directed at the entire outdoor recreation community, and more specifically at hunters and anglers. The Boundary Waters is the most visited Wilderness in America, and thousands of those visitors fish and hunt on their trips each year. Lodges, outfitters, guide services, and locals all benefit from the clean water in the BWCA and overwhelmingly advocate for their protection at events we organize, facilitate, or partner on.
