About Lukas Visockas
As a bioinformatics graduate with a biochemistry background, I have a strong interest in applying computational and statistical methods to understand biological phenomena. I recently completed my MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Glasgow, where I acquired and developed skills in programming (Python, Bash, R), data analysis, polyomics and core bioinformatics principles. My final project focused on mining data from the publicly available metagenomic databases, to identify viral AAV2 infection prevalence in the human population.Before pursuing my master's degree, I worked as a laboratory scientist at Lighthouse Lab, which was a high-throughput Covid-19 diagnostics laboratory affiliated with the University of Glasgow. There I learned core laboratory and management skills, as well as the importance of teamwork, accuracy, and efficiency in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Laboratory Scientist
Lighthouse Lab was a high throughput Covid-19 diagnostics laboratory, affiliated with the University of Glasgow. At its peak, the testing capacity was over 100,000 samples per day.Starting as a laboratory scientist, I was responsible for logging samples into the system and viral inactivation process. After a few months, I became a station deputy lead where I stayed for over 1 year, during which I trained newcomers, uploaded data into the LIMS system, controlled sample flow through the station as well as attended management meetings.Later on I was responsible for the genotyping station, where through qRT-PCR and data analysis, various Covid-19 mutants were detected.The job taught me the importance of teamwork, SOPs, and good management skills.
