  • Shiponsite
    Assistant Manager
    Shiponsite Oct 2014 - Aug 2016
7351 Peppers Ferry Road Fairlawn, Virginia 24141
My responsibilities at ShipOnSite included both opening and closing the store. This involved activating and deactivating the alarm each morning and night. I was also required to open and close the registers by balancing the drawer count first thing in the morning and also at closing time to make sure there are no dollar amount discrepancies or issues. This required me to be able to both count accurately & handle the money in a proper fashion in order to be sure that the correct amount was deposited each night, and also that the proper amount of money was in the register for the next time that I would open the store. I was also required to safely pack & ship any items that were brought into the store. This required careful attention to detail, and required you to thing outside of the box in the event of an oddly shaped item needing to be shipped. I was also required to do data entry to create shipping labels for our customers in order to send out their packages from our store (if the customer was not given postage or a label prior to them coming in to see us). I was also required to know how to operate the square register app for credit card purchases, as well as the cash register's computer based POS system for cash & check transaction purposes. Since I was required to run the store by myself, I had to have the knowledge, and the ability to convey said knowledge, of all the services that we administered to and for our customers. This incuded (but was not limited to): shipping, insurance, packaging and handling, the differences between the major postal carriers, notary services, and also our consignment services through Ebay, Craisglist, Amazon, Etsy, Facebook pages, international shipping specifics (which countries we could and could not ship packages to), etc.
  • Journeys
    Sales Associate
    Journeys Mar 2014 - Aug 2014
835 New River Road Christiansburg, Virginia 24073
During my employment for Journey's, I learned a very necessary work skill. This skill was to learn to survive in a rather toxic work situation. During my employment for Journey's my management team was deemed unfit to continue running their store, and they were terminated by the company. This led to a "re-training" of the current staff in its entirety, myself included. The district manager proceeded to explain to me that I would be re-trained and my results would be monitored for a certain amount of time, and then they would decide if I was still considered a proper fit to be working for them. Prior to this, I was guaranteed a position as the third key-holder (the third person, besides the manager and assistant manager, that can close). I continued to work at Journey's for around one more month, but before I left my position they told me I would I was required to achieve higher sales goals than what was required for the other employees, including the manager's. It felt as though they were trying to force me out my position in order to start with a completely clean slate for their store, so I proceeded to give them several days notice so they could give my shifts to their other employees, and then I proceeded to give them my resignation. While I worked at Journey's I was in charge of keeping the stock room shelves organized. I was also in charge of putting each shipment onto the stockroom shelves. I worked numerous hours in the backroom, and I considered this as my actual job while working for Journey's. The reason I felt this was the basis of my job, was due to the lack of training present for the employees in regards to the stockroom and how the organizational system worked for the stockroom shelves. In addition to this, I was also required to practice 6 selling behaviors with every customer in order to reach two of my three monthly/yearly standards of performance. My final responsibility was to take the bank deposit to the bank each night that I closed the store.
  • Macado'S
    Server
    Macado'S May 2013 - Mar 2014
510 East Main Street Radford, Virginia 24141
During my employment for Macado's, I was required to wait on tables with groups of varying sizes. The largest table I ever waited on by myself was a group of 30 adults. I was also required to do other duties while I was waiting on my tables. I was required to wash dishes, make tea/coffee/koolaid, keep my section of the restaurant clean and presentable, and also seat the people waiting at the door. I also had experience with opening and closing the restaurant. As a server I was also required to restock the kitchen, have full knowledge of state ABC laws and regulations, and I was also required to have the menu memorized for allergy risk recognition, and also to know how much alcohol someone has had so I would know when to cut them off. I feel my biggest accomplishment while working here was learning to work as a member of a team. I would always do my best to get all of my work done, and then I would move onto helping a co-worker who was struggling. I did this because I knew that if anyone else I worked with noticed that I was struggling, then they would return the favor and assist me as well. I really enjoyed position at Macado's because it taught me to deal with large amounts of stressful face-to-face issues with customers over their orders, their wait time, or any other number of issues that might be seen in a restaurant. I used to have issues with confrontational customers, but this job taught me to conquer these issues while maintaining a smile on my face. This job taught me the skill of maintaining your feelings and learning to remain professional even in the face of a stressful situation.
  • Harry The Jeweler
    Sales Associate
Harry The Jeweler Sep 2008 - May 2013
    1087 Radford, Virginia 24141
During my employment for Harry The Jeweler, I was required to take care of all the face-to-face work with the customers. This was done to prevent the jeweler from being distracted from his work in an attempt to increase the level of productivity within the store. I was also required to keep very detailed and accurate records for all of the custom design jobs and jewelry repair orders that we took into the store. This required me to be able to describe and differentiate between every single piece of jewelry that came into the store, down to the cut of the stone, and the purity of the metal. Some of my other duties in the store include the following:1. Greeting and taking care of the customer the second that they come through the door.2. Do your best to keep the customer preoccupied so they do not try to talk to or distract the jeweler while he is working.3. Make sure each paying customer is happy with the work that was provided for them, and if they were displeased, we would do the job over until they were happy with the repair/custom job.4. You were required to be able to calculate what we would pay for scrap metals based on the weight of the piece a customer was trying to sell based on the daily values for gold, silver, platinum, etc. 5. Putting all jewelry and repair orders and any other items of value into the safe at the end of the day.6. You must know how to operate the cash register, and also be able to troubleshoot any problems that may occur while going through the customer's paying process.7. Keep the store looking clean and presentable. Presentation is key for making a lasting impression on the customer, and will lead to them being a return customer.
