Having accepted a Coordinator (Sergeant) position with the Police Armoury at the Sydney Police Centre in 2023, I have been working for NSW Police Force since 2003; most of that time being spent on the frontline in south west Sydney, along with a few years in North Sydney, Mosman and Surry Hills. I find different locations and duty types fascinating; working for the NSW Police Force has allowed me to calibrate my abilities while trying completely new roles from time to time to expand my skillset.I've also seized opportunities to work in the backbone of the organisation, with a period of time working Intelligence in Parramatta, followed by several years in human resources at Police HQ in Parramatta, not to mention my current project.Apart from my day-to-day policing (if you can describe policing that way), I have always gone out of my way to work at major events such as Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay, Moon Festival in Cabramatta and the old Big Day Out at Sydney Olympic Park, while also playing my part in more serious operations. I have to admit that my creative side draws me to these, and I don't consider them to be work.In recent years, I have taken a special interest in mental illness within the community and my colleagues, to the point that I have completed internal mental health-oriented courses (including a residential in Collaroy), and have also become a peer support officer - essentially providing a shoulder and an ear to other police...particularly during the current psychosocial climate. This extends to what I consider to be a very important component of occupational work, health and safety, insofar as the emerging presence of mental illness and stress - whether slight or ongoing - is having a growing impact on all workforces. I actively seek knowledge and skills, and take great pride in my adaptability and learning. After so many years in frontline policing with days full of high-priority jobs, I have come to embrace working under pressure, maintaining a smile and a positive attitude while I am at it. I am constantly looking for new and interesting challenges and would much prefer to try new things instead of wondering if I can do them.
