About Luke Commins

My name is Luke. I'm aspiring to use my skills in writing, policy analysis and research to work in the public service.I have experience as a journalist, writing for local papers. I've hosted radio shows on Youth Jam Radio in Perth, volunteering as a news reader and a radio host. I was the delegate for my local state electorate of South Perth in the 2022 West Australian Youth Parliament, working with like minded peers to write legislation on improving participation and transparency in Local Government. In the same year, I was one of two Perth university students to take part in the Australian Crisis Simulation Summit, putting my knowledge of foreign affairs, politics and security studies to the test in real life scenarios, ranging from cyber attacks on Australian infrastructure to hostage situations in West Papua. I also spent two years as the Perth Worker for Australian Young Christian Students, helping high school students and young adults to get involved in addressing social justice concerns from food scarcity, bullying and homelessness in their school, community and the world at large. I'm now working for the Western Australian Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. My rotations haves included work in the Office of the Director-General, the Regulatory Reform team in Racing, Gaming and Liquor and Specialist Aboriginal Projects and Engagement. The goal of my career is to give back to the community, the people and the country that gave me so many opportunities. Wherever I go or in whatever position I take, if I can fulfill that goal, then that is enough for me.
