Hello, my name is Luke Cosgrave, I am nineteen years old, and I am from Ballinspittle, County Cork. I’m currently an undergraduate studying to get my bachelor’s degree in marketing in Munster Technological University. If I was to describe myself to an employer, I would say that I am creative, ambitious and a team-worker. All of which I have developed over my years of studies.I attended primary school from 2006 to 2013, Ballinspittle National School is the name of my primary school and is the first place I got an education, from there I moved into secondary school, I went to Kinsale Community School from 2014 to 2020, during secondary school I developed many skills and had many experiences to which have shaped me into the person I am today. I am just 2 years into my marketing degree, and I enjoy every bit of it, I am learning something new every day and I am also developing skills further for when I enter employment.Over my lifetime, I have developed many skills, some of which are more relevant to my career, skills such as communication, problem-solving, team-working, and interpersonal skills. I have developed communication skills from speaking to partners in projects and from doing presentations. Problem solving skills are skills I’ve learned throughout life, everyone has hit a roadblock in their life, and they use perspective to overcome that problem, perspective is a factor of problem solving and is a great skill to have. Team-working skills is something I learned from an early age from playing for my local Gaa team, teamwork is the fundamental part of life and is great if you can use it properly, but not all people are team workers. Some interpersonal skills I’ve adapted to are things such as awareness, caring and communication. These skills are very useful for when I need to understand a situation or cooperate with others. I am currently working part time in the hospitality industry, I work in Acton’s hotel, and I am a bartender/waiter, in relation to my career and my marketing degree, I have developed and understanding of B2C (Business to Consumer) in real life terms. Furthermore, I developed customer service skills and how to communicate properly, problem solving skills are relevant whilst working as things like complaint resolutions are things that happen on a day-to-day basis. I do believe that working part time now will get me ready for employment for once I complete my studies, because dealing with real life scenarios such as complaints is the best way to get better and confident at fixing them and finding solutions.
