Data + Analytics Engineer
Vecna Robotics helps distribution organizations streamline their logistics operations by offering a range of autonomous mobile robots capable of picking up and delivering pallets, optimizing job distributions, and much more. I served as a Data + Analytics Engineer at Vecna between my first and second year of graduate school, delivering customized data-driven solutions to both external clients and internal business and engineering teams. Some of the projects I worked on include:- Created a process to extract data from specified servers, robots, and time periods and transform that data in to performance KPIs such as throughput, speeds, event times, and more with the ultimate goal of being able to track performance improvements and/or regressions between SW releases, bug fixes and site changes. This involved: • Configuring a master JSON file storing the specified extraction data • Writing an advanced SQL query that extracted the data from the specified windows and transformed it in to performance KPIs • Developing a Python script to read from the master JSON and customize the SQL query for an inputted test/use case • Running the query over the data warehouse utilizing AWS S3 and Athena • Creating visuals and analyzations in Tableau from the imported transformed data- Met with both external clients and internal business leaders to identify which performance KPIs were most important to their use cases and needs, and delivered those solutions by creating advanced SQL models, creating visuals and analyzations in Tableau, and presenting the final solutions to each respective team. - Optimized the ingestion process of our transformation pipeline by altering the way in which data was ingested to be transformed every pipeline execution. This involved: • Utilizing extraction history logs to locate untransformed data • Reading, splitting, and reordering raw data parquet files to only ingest untransformed data to be transformed
Analytics Engineer | Software Validation Engineer | Solutions Engineer
While pursuing my master's degree, I continued to work at Vecna in a hybrid role, contributing to areas including data transformations, software validation, solution design, sales demos and presentations, and customer success. During this time, I:- Developed and deployed custom features related to data extraction and transformation methods, obstacle detection and classification, and mapping and localization processes- Validated and debugged new software release versions, patches, and tags, ensuring no safety or performance regressions due to new and/or updated features- Consulted the solutions team regarding the feasibility of new use cases and features- Was selected to deliver technical presentations and lead in-person demos to visiting prospective clients and investors regarding our technology and solutions- Continued to help with active customer projects by serving as remote support
Deployment Engineer
As a Deployment Engineer at Vecna, I was primarily responsible for the design, implementation and troubleshooting of our solutions at client sites. Specifically, I:- Traveled to client sites and worked directly with client representatives to design and implement a solution that best optimized both their individual workflow and our system- Debugged software and hardware issues mainly relating to LiDAR obstacle detection, sensor fusion and localization and mapping- Developed and tuned custom features and parameters to meet specific client needs such as pallet detection algorithms, adjusted safety fields and WMS integration techniques- Designed travel and traffic control areas, paths, and destinations to create a virtual transportation environment for all AMRs in production
Team Member, Technical Entrepreneurship, Capstone Project
For my undergraduate capstone project, I served as the mechanical engineer on a team of six engineers working towards designing a multi-functional medical device used in spinal surgeries for our client sponsor Aesculap. As the mechanical engineer on the team, I was tasked with: - Designing and prototyping the main components of the device - Leading the biomedical research and determining design specs - Creating CAD models of all components and performing stress analyses of those models - Managing the 3D printing, machining and assembly of prototype components
