Team Leader of the Project & Programme Delivery Team comprising 12 staff. The team’s primary function is to deliver strategic capital projects; and includes project development, establishing and validating the business case, project delivery, contract management, commissioning and handover.

Responsible for the project management for a range of generation projects, including overhauls, major corrective maintenance, upgrades and new builds. The role included being Engineer to Contract on several projects, and using several contract types (NZS3910, FIDIC, NEC4).

This involves promoting engineering within the local region, supporting local members, facilitating site visits, encouraging young people into engineering, providing oportunities for networking etc.

Senior Mechanical Engineer and Commissioning Engineer for a CCR (Continuous Catalyst Regeneration) project at the Marsden Point Refinery (Te Mahi Hou Project).

Lead a team of discipline engineers to supply technical services within a capital projects delivery group. This includes the following:• Feasibility studies• FEED studies• Detailed Engineering (inc. Process/Chemical, Piping/Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Control)• Procurement specifications• Construction methodologiesThis role also involves co-ordinating offsite engineering activities for Project Managers with various engineering consultancies.

Responsible for the delivery of capital projects. This includes FEED, detail design, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, evaluation and close-out. Other activities also include, estimating, budgeting, planning, scheduling, design reviews, HAZOP's, constructability reviews, monitoring, reporting and stakeholder engagement. These projects have business drivers ranging from retain capability and compliance, to health and safety improvements, to energy efficiency and growth / de-bottlenecking.

• Providing Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments for pressure equipment (piping, vessels, columns etc) in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, and applicable regulations, codes of practice and standards (PECPR, ACOPPE, ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, BS PD 5500).• Carrying out engineering design of repairs to pressure equipment in accordance with the applicable regulations, codes of practice and standards (PECPR, ACOPPE, ASME PCC-2, ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, BS PD 5500, Shell DEP’s).• Engineering design, planning and execution of specialist procedures such as Hot Tap and Cold Cut Plug and Weld (CCPW) and other especially hazardous maintenance procedures (includes specific measures manage HS&E). Many activities involved developing strategies to repair plant while in service or removing specific sections of plant for repair, minimising overall impact to plant throughput and availability.• Identify and eliminate bad actors (repeat failures) – identify problem areas with re-occurrence, determine root cause, identify solution/s and implement them.• Carrying out Root Cause Analysis (RCA) studies• Incident Investigations – occasionally investigate incidents. Interview involved parties, checking permitary conditions, checking compliance to procedures and best practice, summarising findings and recommending actions.• Furnace tube temperature measurements using radiation pyrometers and furnace specific software.

In addition to my core responsibilities, I represented the views of the Maintenance department and Operations day staff at bi-monthly Health and Safety Steering Committee meetings. Involved in setting H&S policies and reviewing incidents. Provide feedback from Steering Committee to Maintenance department and Operations day staff.

Responsible for the planning, management and execution of maintenance shutdowns of specific units. This includes the following activities:• Work scope challenge, scope freeze, schedule development, budget development and approval• Resource management (identifying and ordering long lead materials, materials, tooling, labour (including specialist contractors), mobile equipment, and external contracts)• Development and promotion of an HSE strategy (includes an induction for all personnel, establishing training requirements, monitoring HSE performance, communicating and enforcing HSE initiatives , incident management)• Responsibility for monitoring and controlling HSE, schedule and budget performance• Overall direction of activities• Communication with stakeholders (Asset Management, Commercial, HSE department, external contractors)• Management of Emergent Work - assessment, approval and planning and execution• Approval of external contractor invoices• Managing the integration between operational and maintenance activities (shutdown phases, flushing, gas freeing, dry outs, purging and start-up.Close out of all jobs, budget and reporting of shutdown performance (schedule compliance, budget performance, HSE performance, identification of ‘lessons learnt’ for future shutdowns).
