Ive worked in greenkeeping for 20 years and started my career as a trainee at the Belfry where I obtained my N.V.Q 2 and 3 in Amenity Horticulture & Sports Turf. During my time at The Belfry I had the opportunity to prepare the course for numerous golf events including the Ryder Cup. I also helped in the construction of PGA National and the major remodeling of the Brabazon back in 2000, and the ongoing modifications until I left for my current position in 2009. In my current role I am responsible for assisting the Course Manager in the maintenance of the golf course. Together with this role I also manage the workshop which involves maintaining, servicing and grinding a large fleet of machinery. It is my responsibility to keep machinery records, service logs and stock required to keep the fleet in excellent condition to produce high quality playing surfaces here at Robin Hood GC. Since my arrival in the 2009 I’ve played a major part in the restructure, redevelopment and remodeling of the greenkeeping department and golf course. This has involved a complete new drainage network across the course tying in much needed new drainage to all 18 greens and the remodeling on 8 of the holes. These holes have including 2 pond installations with sleeper edges, new tees, greens, banked green surrounds and new bunkers with rubber crumb lined bases. I also look after all the irrigation duties, ranging from head setting to major pipework and repair.
