Leads several initiatives to increase access to care, addresses health care needs, and shares best practices for delivering care to underserved populations. Serves as the lead for two of ACU’s largest initiatives, the annual ACU conference and ACU’s Eye Health and Vision Care Program.

Coordinate intervention in HIV and Syphilis disease transmission by interviewing and referring infected individuals and partners for treatment and care services. • Consulted with health care providers (i.e. health departments, correctional institutions, military installations, and community based organizations) on CDC treatment guidelines, practice guidelines, and patient assessment protocols; collaborating with local health directors on violation of NC public health law.• Conducted community assessments to identify high risk areas, and investigated suspected violations of NC Communicable Disease Law. • Assisted outbreak response teams statewide with health education and phlebotomy, participated in Project Re-entry providing NC inmates with health education prior to their release, and took part in the STAT project for acutely infected individuals with UNC Chapel Hill. • Recognized as a public health team state wide for best practices in effort to eliminate syphilis in Wayne County, NC in 2009, effective reduction of 36%.

Worked as part of a treatment team to provide mental health services to eligible children and their families. Planned intervention activities for clients and recorded progress notes for supervisor review.

Participated in a wide range of research projects including food insecurity among Latino Migrant Farmworkers, tractor safety, physical activity and nutrition among elementary children, and air quality. Responsibilities include coordinating/managing mentors in an afterschool program for elementary children, writing data collection protocol for multiple research projects, database management, data collection, data preparation for analysis, training/coordinating bilingual data collectors, moderating focus groups, and Spanish interpretation/translation. Liaised with community organizations and universities to ensure data was collected efficiently and prepared reports, manuscripts and oral presentations on research findings.

Coordinated a research project dealing with physical activity among middle school children. Duties/responsibilities include supervising project staff; coordinating administrative tasks; assisting in grant writing; preparing budgets; interfacing with the public, local government and agencies, and the school systems; moderating focus groups; assisting in data analysis; overseeing the logistics of data collection; and writing the data collection training manual.

Conducted phone surveys in English and Spanish for Research Triangle Institute, International on behalf of the US Department of Education, NY State Health Department, and Head Start Program of Pontiac, Michigan dealing with topics such as finances for post-secondary education, attitudes towards saving money, and teen tobacco use.
