I love to help people and have found many ways to make that the focus of my life, and my career. At my print-making employer, I was always a go-to person when they needed answers to something new — so much so that they created a unique position to allow me to contribute my accumulated knowledge and insightful analysis to everyone, full time. Emergency Management is all about preparing a network of helpers and resources for when the need arises, and there I had a key role in keeping critical resources up to date. My teammates knew they could count on me, whether for tech-savvy help or just to lend a hand. And I learned a life-saving skill, CPR, that I was then able to turn around and teach to others.The unexpected chance to correct screenplay dialogue for a non-native English speaker was a real treat, as I saw my everyday language skills become a valuable expertise to share. We collaborated thoughtfully, to nail each character’s intention, tone, and region.My work as a preschool instructor is, of course, all about helping children — much as it is with being a dad to a fun-loving, multilingual kid. Spending time with kids brings endless opportunities to support their needs, inform and encourage them as they explore the world.From the geekiness of analyzing complex IT problems, to something as interpersonal as being a teacher, I have been happily applying myself to any challenge or role, with the “yes, I can” attitude of a trained improvisor. The satisfaction I get from helping others is what motivates me to continue learning new things, and always put in my best effort.
