About Luke Mccorkell

I have recently completed my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management and have become an Associate member of the CIPD. I really enjoyed the modules that I covered during my degree and hope to continue to grow through the work that I am currently doing. I plan on completing a CIPD course to become a chartered member and to help improve my knowledge of Human Resources and how best to develop a positive workforce. I have played Football at a competitive level and played in tournaments across Europe. I am learning many new coaching techniques and skills in my role as a Football coach in America. I plan to continue my studies by completing my UEFA B coaching licence during the summer and trying to continue to develop my coaching knowledge through coaching in different places under different coach's.

  • Penfield Rangers Soccer Club
    Professional Development Officer
Penfield Rangers Soccer Club Dec 2013 - Present
    Rochester, New York Area
My role as Professional Development Officer is to oversee and implement the curriculum and best practices for all teams which will help both the individual player and team develop together for age U8-U17 boys.My role at the club is too coach the U8, U10 and U17 boys teams every Saturday while overseeing the coaches that coach the remainder of the teams. My sessions varied for the different age groups, When coaching the younger age groups it is based more around the technical points in football e.g. dribbling, passing, receiving, this means making sure every player has a ball at there feet as much as possible and that they are always moving and engaged, this will help maximize development at the junior age. When coaching the U17 my sessions are based more around positional play and tactical drills e.g. possession, support play, defending from the front, within these drills I would still be working on the basics of football but all my coaching points would be based around more team development while still developing the individual through the session

My role as Professional Development Officer is to oversee and implement the curriculum and best practices for all teams which will help both the individual player and team develop together for age U8-U17 boys and girls. My sessions varied for the different age groups, When coaching the younger age groups it is based more around the technical points in football e.g. dribbling, passing, receiving, this measn making sure every player has a ball at there feet as much as possible and that they are always moving and engaged, this will help maximize development at the junior age. While coaching the older age groups from U12-U17 my sessions are based more around positional play and tactical drills e.g. possession, support play, defending from the front, within these drills I would still be working on the basics of football but all my coaching points would be based around more team development while still developing the individual through the session. I also run coaching clinics once a month for the coaches at the club where I would go through a session's from defending to tactical sessions and break them down and explain certain coaching points to the coaches that are watching, this helps improve the coaching throughout the club because if every coach are coaching on the same standard through the age groups then the development of the players will be maximized.
