My role at Van Diemen Films involved designing, assembling, and testing camera lenses to be used in photography, TV or film. Key involvement in the following areas:• Designed new lenses & support systems, primarily developed single focus movement mechanismsfor ‘Canon’ and ‘Leica’ lenses. All lenses were assembled and shipped out to professional clients.• Produced 2D engineering drawings for new lens components and modified olddrawings to uphold to the current British Standards.• Integrated ‘Alibre Design’ CAD software to produce both 3D part/assembly models and 2Dengineering drawings, increasing the productivity of the design process significantly.• Held regular discussions with component suppliers, communicating technical feedback. Resolved several issues with suppliers, preventing future parts requiring in-house modifications.• Enhanced the performance of the in-house ‘Ultimaker 2’ 3D printer through analysis of extrusion settings, nozzle diameter and printer G-Code to increase the strength, consistency, and speed ofeach printed component.• Safely conducted precise in-house modification of components using lathe, drilling & milling machineprior to lens assembly.
