I was the counselors' pastor, a sermon-giver, worship team leader, all-around encourager, CPS communicator, photographer, and the person who was there to help in any other way that was needed. Flexibility was imperative, and that along with my previously-obtained skills in ministry and worship leading were needed to help keep the camp afloat all summer.

I took phone calls (and then online chats and emails) from customers of two of the biggest men's clothing brands in the country. Through this job, I was able to learn how to keep up with a fast-paced work environment and develop much-needed communication and organization skills.

This job allowed me to be thrown into the trenches of the sufferings of the human heart daily. I came in to the rooms of those who were sick or injured, and was beckoned to suffer with them. I prayed with them, encouraged them, and did my best to lead them to the light they needed in their darkest hours.

Having grown up in a large suburban youth group, I had become familiar to an extent as to what all youth group interns did. Because of this, I was able to go about this position in a way that I feel had been needed when I was in youth group. While also focusing on regular summer events, I also strove to emphasize the need for social justice and serving.

Living up to its name, my job here was to find unreached people in the heart of the diverse Bronx, New York, and find ways to tell them about Jesus. Our method was to seek out "People of Peace" who were open to hearing about things like this, and to build relationships with them. Mission work is slow and develops overtime, and so we had to learn how to be.
