A man once told me to not take pictures of the sun. A young Boy Scout then, I was just getting started with photography on a backpacking trip through the San Bernardino mountains. The sun was setting behind some Bristlecone pine trees, and I snapped a picture with my small blue point-and-shoot camera. At the time, my 11-year-old artistic sensibilities found the composition to be quite good, and moving forward I decided I wasn’t going to listen to some kid’s dad about what photos I should or shouldn’t take. More than ten years ago, I recall this as one my first memories of learning to love photography, and moreover, the incomparable power image has in telling stories. In the years since then, I’ve grown much as an image-maker and a student. Discovering a passion for film late in high school, I pursued a degree in business marketing and minored in film studies at Seattle University. Throughout my time there, I was invigorated by the intersecting qualities of marketing and film – at the center of each study is the importance of story and learning how to tell a story well. Through course-related film and marketing projects, and the work experiences I’ve had in the last few years, I’ve developed a better understanding of storytelling and have had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the processes that make complex and superb marketing, filmmaking, and storytelling possible.Creative & Collaborative– At Seattle University and within the creative work opportunities I’ve had, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of collaboration and the creative process. – I value the feedback immensely: through giving, receiving, and implementing feedback in a fast-paced environment, I’ve developed my abilities in iterative creative and critical thinking.Focused & Organized– As a technical director at Icon Church and throughout my academic studies, I’ve developed consistent organizational skills and an inexhaustible attention to detail.Excellent Communicator– As a barista, technical director, and producer, I’ve grown in my abilities to communicate with empathy and precision.Activities & Honors:▪︎ Fragments Literary Magazine▪︎ SU Filmmaker’s Club▪︎ Alpha Sigma Nu▪︎ Eagle ScoutTools & Certifications:▪︎ Adobe - Premiere Pro, Audition, Lightroom, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator▪︎ Microsoft - Office Excel▪︎ Website Design & Management - Squarespace; Webflow; basic HTML, CSS, JavascriptI am currently looking for opportunities at the intersection of film and marketing.
