I took part in an opportunity given to me called Career Ready. Career ready helped prepare me for my transition from school to work by doing online seminars where they talk through such things as interviews and how they should be done, how to write a successful personal statement and the best ways to apply for jobs. Whilst doing this I was given a mentor called Ben Kemp, we arranged a meeting every month to go over different topics and was also there if I had any questions regarding the workplace. Ben, who works for Mitie, offered me a four week paid internship at Mitie. I thought it would help me get a good feel for how a professional business atmosphere is like. For those four weeks I traveled into Manchester everyday to Angel Square where I worked alongside Ben and many others who were the heads of departments such as security and marketing. Whilst there I work mostly with the marketing team. I was tasked from the leading marketers at Mitie, who operate in the shard, to research trends happening on Twitter and LinkedIn which related to the business and report back to them with what I had found. The main task I was given however was to create an advertisement for a new campaign they were doing called Bouncing Back, to do this I used Adobe InDesign and was given a one hour session about branding with the head of brand Dipesh which benefited me not only for creating the advertisement but for all future designs. I benefited massivley from my experience there and learned many new skills which I will be able to use in the future when I progress onto the workplace. Show less
