My role as an Investment Manager at a seed stage VC is to essentially; - Find good ideas- Do the deal and help the company grow- Coach the founder and the team in using their investment as effectively as possible. I draw upon my experiences as a software project manager to understand HOW these products are created and delivered, and my experience as a startup mentor to continuously de-risk the business and build. My goal is for as many companies as possible to grow as smartly and as sustainable as possible.

My role as a Startup Consultant is to work with founders and startups to help them quickly test risky product, customer and business assumptions and get them from Plan-A to a Plan-that-works as quickly as possible. I work to find promising entrepreneurs and mentor them and their business into an 'investable' state.This is mostly identifying assumptions the entrepreneur has made about his product or his market and creating experiments to test them. The results are always based on traction, and if their is a real need for the product, then we will find our first real customers. Once invested, I work with the team to plan a validation strategy to continue learning about key product and market assumptions, and an iterative build phase to design and develop a product. When we have a clear idea of what we are building and have our first customers waiting to buy, I'll help resource a co-founding team to work directly with the customers and build out the product. During this time I focus on growth and start designing a customer acquisition strategy. Once our market traction is growing sustainably and sufficiently we help our entrepreneur raise external investment to further scale the business and help them hire their own team. Whilst working so closely with a variety of startups my most valuable assets have been my knowledge in Agile Software Development, the lean startup methodology, inbound marketing and my ability to work closely and passionately with a diverse set of people and projects.

As a Product Owner for Nova I worked within an agile team, practising Scrum. The core purpose of the role was to: - Work closely and frequently with users and stakeholders to collect & document product requirements.- Collaborate with engineering and UX consultants to prototype these for user and stakeholder validation - Once approved, communicate these to our teams of engineers who were usually part of a remote team. - Release plans and backlog management based off of business and user needs.- Frequent planning and strategy meetings with members of the team to evaluate release plans.- Communicating these back the stakeholders and managing expectations.
