My role is to assist with the design and implementation of several projects the academy is undertaking, all with the purpose of developing the psychology provision supplied to players, staff and parents.I am part of a well-established department of practitioners integrated within the multi-disciplinary setup of the academy. This is a varied role and I work across several different areas and with a wide ranging group of clients at the club.

My role involved providing the Under 9 - Under 18 academy players/parents/coaches with appropriate psychological support as part of the elite performance department. I was responsible for leading the design and implementation of psychological support within the club and this role included elements of psychological profiling, assessment, consultation, and education for all 200 players with the long-term aim of retaining category 1 status and producing first team players for the club. I was also given the responsibility of leading projects with external companies. As a relatively new part of the academy, I was able to develop the psychology department which is something I am proud to have done.

Working closely with the clubs staff, I assisted in the design and delivery of a series of sport psychology workshops, psychological assessments, presentations, and one-to-one sport psychology consultations. I worked with many academy players, but predominantly the scholars. Although working within the confines of current qualifications, my responsibilities included many of those of a professional sport psychologist. This role integrated well with my MSc and was good preparation for me to achieve accreditation status and work professionally within elite sport.

I gained a years great experience working predominatly with the academy team, but also assisting the first team, at Reading Football Club. I worked in areas of sport science, psychology, nutrition, performance analysis, and strength and conditioning.
