Lotus Indoor Percussion is an open class member of the WGI competitive circuit and will compete in Dayton, Ohio at WGI Finals.

Since 2012, I have had a handful of recurring lessons students as well as a collection of single lessons to a variety of students aged 6 - 18 in the areas of rudimental snare drum, keyboard percussion such as 4-mallet marimba technique, concert/orchestral percussion, drumset, and piano. I pride myself in guiding students to self-identify their goals and implementing a tailor-made systematic plan to reach those goals. I am always looking forward to opportunities to work with driven young musicians.

I have had several opportunities to arrange music for marching band battery percussion including a full percussion accompaniment for my own high school's marching band as well as creating several educationally oriented warm-ups/etudes for drumline. More recently I have arranged a complete stands tune for the Robinson High School Senator Sound marching band, as well as a duet for trombone and vibraphone focused on developing specific technical and musical challenges.

In this role, I had the opportunity to work with students in a classroom type setting learning both performative and other academic aspects of music. An emphasis was placed on instilling a greater interest and excitement for music as well as developing an informed perspective on music's role in the student's life as well as its role in civilization at large.

In this role, I had the incredible opportunity to assist primarily Mr. Ben Light in his role as head band director over the high school and middle school music programs. My responsibilities included leading and facilitating rehearsals with both the high school and middle school classes, conducting the ensembles, creating and implementing lesson plans, preparing materials for upcoming classes, organizing the learning/rehearsal space, designing a cumulative learning practice schedule, general maintenance of musical instruments, and as a priority working with the percussion students. I have arranged 2 pieces of music for the program - a stands tune for marching band and a duet for trombone and vibraphone.

This is one of two periods where I worked in an adjunct staff contract-based position for the Cabot High School competitive marching band. The other stint occured during the summer and fall semester of 2017. My responsibilities in this role included giving pedagogical instruction and feedback as well as directing and administering rehearsals for both the battery percussion and front ensemble sections. Instruction included musical technique and expression concepts as well as visual and choreography concepts.

This experience is something I'll always be happy to have in my memory. It was a great validation in the transference of my skills gained in music education as well as a bolster of hands on experience in a professional office setting. I especially feel appreciative to have gotten experience pushing toward established and agreed-upon goals, and developing my conversational and social skills.

The Cavaliers are one of the world’s most decorated and elite drum corps (a form of competitive traditional marching band ensemble). The Cavaliers are a world class member of Drum Corps International and won the world championship 7 times. Luke obtained his snare drum position by prevailing in a highly-intensive, months-long, competitive audition over dozens of other auditionees from all over the planet including several countries in Europe and Asia.
