I have a passion for enabling users to make the most of technology. From developing intuitive interfaces and visualisations to coordinating back-end infrastructure, most of my career I have been engaged in the area of interactive systems. Starting as an interface programmer in 2005 (5 years), I moved on to deploying computing infrastructure for the ‘Interactive Systems’ group at the University of Plymouth (8 years). More recently I had a role developing web-based tools for data systems at the Norsk Marint Datasenter (IMR) (Bergen, Norway) and am currently working on frontend web apps at StormGeo.As a generalist I strive to integrate technologies to solve the problems of the day. The pace of change in the sector requires having the flexibility to move between platforms and frameworks fluidly, this is a skill I value and have honed. At NMD I developed Angular applications that brought modern functionality and flexibility to user interfaces. I embedded a continuous-development pipeline to get features and fixes from code to production more rapidly for users.In my previous role at the university I provided technical expertise for a range of specialisms including virtual/augmented/mixed reality, 3D applications, web, mobile and games programming. I was responsible for the IT provision across a cluster of computing labs encapsulating all aspects of service delivery. I successfully integrated a infrastructure-as-code solution providing resilience and flexibility to the department. I also negotiated with stakeholders and coordinated inter-departmental software projects to deliver prototypes from existing research. I have a keen interest in creating synergies between dev and ops and am always on the lookout for ways to implement new tech and best practices; especially around devops, CI/CD. I pride myself on being self-sufficient with a broad skill set across multiple fields enabling me to effectively operate in the fluid and ever-changing environment of the technology sector.
