As Head of Engineering I led the transformation of the “Growth Tribe" into a “Marketplace Tribe" with a focus on the end-to-end consumer experience driving significant growth in online bookings. During this time I scaled the tribe to 4 teams, mentoring Staff Engineers, Engineering Managers and Engineers while collaborating closely with Product and Design teams on roadmap planning and feature delivery. I also filled the role of Staff Engineer (Backend) during this period.Highlights:- Re-architecture of the entire Marketplace site from a legacy React framework to NextJS, including a full rebrand.- Established a native app team, delivering feature-complete apps in 6 months with weekly leadership demos. These apps scored a #1 ranking for lifestyle apps in both Apple and Google Play stores and increased review rating from 3.5 to 4.9 over the previous hybrid app.- Migrated all APIs from REST to GraphQL using a Gateway pattern, improving flexibility and efficiency.- Revamped testing strategy, migrating from a flakey and slow end-to- end test suite to a mix of unit, integration, and synthetics while greatly improving coverage.- Improved deployment culture, achieving continuous delivery and reducing pipeline times from hours to minutes.- Established engineering KPIs for reliability, performance, and quality, driving continuous improvement across all metrics.

Managed and grew multiple engineering teams, overseeing product delivery across multiple projects and product managers focused on the area of Growth & Engagement. Contributed to product feature development through hands-on coding and project leadership.

Hired in an early stage startup to turn the MVP into a production grade system, I built and lead a small product team to design and deliver the Marketplace and B2B SaaS platforms which powered the business. I was the primary technical contributor over the entire stack while also handling most PM and design responsibilities, ultimately resulting in a successful acquisition by a larger competitor.Highlights:- Migrated an MVP built with Clojure and Datomic to a production grade system using ReactJS, Elixir and Postgres.- Built a feature complete SaaS Salon Management product working closely with Customer Experience and Sales teams to prioritise, design and deliver features for maximum impact.- Developed a consumer facing marketplace site which dominated organic search rankings for beauty and wellness across Australia.- Created a design system for sharing common components between frontend platforms - improving delivery efficiency.

Initially working as part of a product team delivering various features end-to-end on the Consumer and Back-Office applications. I then lead a team in the design and implementation of a SaaS delivery management platform MVP, successfully delivering on an aggressive timeline for our initial group of customers.Highlights:- Architecture and system design for a delivery management SaaS platform that managed a fleet of drivers on a map in real time including dispatching, routing and driver rostering.- Designed and implemented an online store integrated with our delivery platform for use in promotional campaigns with partners.

Designed and implemented a range of in-house products serving enterprise customers.Highlights:- Led the development of a new API product that modernised the company’s integration approach with enterprise clients.- Implemented a new company website and blogging platform.- Developed an internal PaaS using CoreOS and related technologies.
