I worked in the Global Accident Tolerant Fuels Technology group, trying to help enable an economically viable step change in nuclear fuel safety and reliability.
I performed research with the Materials Science & Process Technology and Energy Materials groups at the Savannah River National Laboratory. My interests covered a range of topics primarily within the areas of materials degradation and alloy development. Some highlights include projects on coatings for accident tolerant fuels in nuclear reactors.
During this period I finished up research on molten fluoride salt corrosion and prevention mechanisms and worked on publishing those results. I also performed some fundamental electrochemical research in chloride pyroprocessing salts (LiCl-KCl), similar to some work I did as part of my doctoral research with fluoride salts.
Worked with a MELCOR program to investigate whether it could model radioactive dust movement during a loss of vacuum accident in a tokamak.
Used MELCOR severe accident analysis code to expand a model of a loss of coolant accident from a pebble bed reactor.
Dissertation: Materials Corrosion in Molten LiF-NaF-KF Eutectic Salt
Thesis: UWNR Supercritical Water Radiolysis Experiment: Thermal-Hydraulics Analysis
