I was part of a small team producing and presenting the world's first ever interactive news bulletin on smart speakers. Bold and creative in our editorial we worked incredibly hard to produce a distinctive and engaging news offering to traditional and non-traditional audiences. Our team also produced the hugely successful 5 Minutes On podcast for BBC Sounds. During this time I worked closely with correspondents around the world to help online audiences better understand major news events in 'snackable' form. I produced episodes on the death of George Floyd, Britney Spears' conservatorship, the war in Ukraine and many more - you can listen to some of the episodes I produced below.Working across both services required a high level of skill and organisation both technically and professionally - it was 24/7 365. As a team leader, I was responsible for making strong editorial decisions whilst adhering to the BBC's editorial guidelines.

Here I worked across three main roles, early producer, reporter and late producer.

Volunteer work involves transcribing and/or proof reading transcriptions of digital images of the archive index cards detailing the work of the Voluntary Aid Detachments during WW1. The work is unpaid and all done online, using a specially designed system. The VAD project is run by the British Red Cross in partnership with Kingston University's Centre for the Historical Record.

Across all roles I research and investigate stories for for the Breakfast Show while fixing up contributors, doing pre-rec and live interviews in the field, while creating colourful news packages for air and writing cues.The role of late producer requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to pull things together and react to breaking news, in order to get the breakfast show in the best possible shape for the following day. Requires ability to work autonomously and make strong editorial decisions.

As part of a 2 person news team, but largely working autonomously, I was responsible for producing creative and engaging news content for radio news bulletins and the online news pages.This involved in depth research, chasing leads, writing scripts, doing interviews, reporting LIVE in the field, reading bulletins, producing original stories and mentoring internship students.Over the 2 years I was first to exclusively report on a number of stories, including a Police search for an illegal animal slaughterhouse and controversial rules over School uniform at a Dorset school.I often fulfilled the role of duty editor and directed news desk staff on big breaking stories, including the winter flooding and fatal landslides at the Beaminster Tunnel and Freshwater Beach.During my time with Wessex FM I flew out to Cyprus with our local soldiers to report on their training for Afghanistan. I solely produced a dedicated web page with feature stories and colourful news packages, while producing content for bulletins back home - my work was praised by colleagues and British Army.I also solely produced a dedicated we page informing listeners about Dorset's first PCC Elections with a guide to each candidate.

Working closely with producers on the World News planning desk. Responsible for researching topics of interest, keeping the online diary up to date with the key events taking place on the world stage. Detailing plans of action for story assignments and ensuring all material is available for the wider BBC to view and sample. Intake: Working across the BBC's world news radio programmes, organising bids and responsible for getting foreign correspondents on-air every hour.

Part of a 2 man team producing hourly news bulletins on Midwest Radio (now Celador's The Breeze).Requires good attention to detail, understanding of diverse audience groups and the ability to write short engaging scripts, whilst working to tight deadlines and staying on top of a large workload.

Solely responsible for producing stories and reading hourly news bulletins for two stations in the south-west Fire Radio (Bournemouth) and Nova Radio (West Super Mare).Requires good attention to detail, understanding of diverse audience groups and the ability to write short engaging scripts to tight deadlines whilst staying on top of a large workload.Key achievement - providing up to date coverage on all the major news arising from this past winter's "snow chaos". Making sure I had the latest interviews and information on transport delays and school closures, whilst staying in touch with the local authorities for up to date advice on safety and precautionary measures so our listeners were informed wherever they were. Particularly challenging to stay on top of the developing story across two separate patches.It was important for me to keep the story fresh and running every day until the cold-snap eased off. I managed this by talking to many different people e.g. transport & road safety officials, food distribution companies, petrol stations, care workers and people forced to stay at home.

Working across 2 stations Wessex-FM and Spire-FM, I worked as part of a 2 or sometimes 3 person team, sourcing and producing the news for hourly bulletins.I'd often be sent out on reporter duties that included LIVE phonos and 2 way interviews from the scene of a major family murder, Summer Solstice at Stonehenge and Soldier Homecomings on Salisbury Plain. Key achievement – Reporting live on location during the “Fordingbridge Killings".
