Leader of a six week tailoring design project for 2nd year BA menswear design students that forms the blue riband project of their Autumn term, working with students from briefing, through individual tutorials, to crit.

A footwear collaboration between myself and English shoemaker Oliver Sweeney, initiated from sketches made during my MA collection development in lockdown, and crafted in their artisanal factories in Le Marche, Italy. Publicly released with an online launch in September 2021 on oliversweeney.com as a 60-pair run capsule of two styles, and showcased in a piece by British GQ.“The original inspiration for Luke Derrick’s design was the cowboy boot – the beloved Texan favourite that would be worn all day, inside and out, day after day. Secured as part of the 2020 Dunhill Award after winning a design project set by creative director Mark Weston.Immediately put to CAD work on photoshop and illustrator for their final round of sample launches upon arrival, I directly assisted the senior designer for the duration of the placement working toward the house's SS22 collection. Following the presentation, I assisted with initial ideation and research of their AW22 collection, as well as working on VIP briefs and independent research and trial sampling projects.

I closely assisted Brioni's design team lead by Maison Margiela alum Nina-Maria Nitsche in the lead up to SS19, her second collection at the house, as well as the initial phases of AW19.I worked closely with Nitsche and her team on a diverse variety of projects, from graphics, to denim, leather goods, and leisurewear, as well as copywriting for labelling and press release. I provided a great deal of research materials, and was rewarded by the opportunity to be able to contribute many original ideas to their general creative process.

For the duration of this placement I worked closely with the design team and in-house tailor for the duration of the AW/18 season. I was the only intern in the team for the period.My roles included draping, sampling, and CAD related projects, and assisting at collection presentations and ateliers in Milan and Paris.

Working as a design assistant intern with their classico menswear team, I was heavily encouraged to develop my own projects independantly, autonomously collaborating with suppliers and factories towards my own capsule collection. Alongside this I developed prints that were selected and bought for Zara’s Oxford shirting collection, with 30k units being manufactured using the various artworks.

For this period I was sole intern of both companies simultaneously, working as a research and design intern a E.Tautz, and as a workroom intern at Norton’s, where I was directly assisting the head cutter and coat-makers, machining and basting jobs, and communicating with cloth suppliers.They taught me the basics of fully-canvassed jacket construction, a skill sinceforth continued to teach myself after hours.

For this period I was sole intern of both companies simultaneously, working as a research and design intern a E.Tautz, and as a workroom intern at Norton’s, where I was directly assisting the head cutter and coat-makers, machining and basting jobs, and communicating with cloth suppliers.They taught me the basics of fully-canvassed jacket construction, a skill sinceforth continued to teach myself after hours.

Assisting as part of a very small team directly for Jack Appleyard and Charles himself, I cut and sewed tailoring showpieces for their Fashion East MAN AW16 collection.

During this placement I directly shadowed the two head designers, attending textile fairs, visits to suppliers, and sitting in on every executive design meeting and consultancy; in particular, I was able to witness their first development of their City Riding collection, and was present to witness the company celebrate Chris Frume’s first win of the Tour De France for Team Sky, who At that time were in their first season of being outfitted by Rapha.
