Working with HomeStreet Bank allowed me to provide an array of loan programs including Conventional, FHA, FHA 203k, USDA, VA, Jumbo, FNMA HomePath and HomeStyle, Construction, Spec as well as loans made directly from the Portfolio. HomeStreet also had a unique platform for processing and servicing loans that made it quick and easy for the client. The underwriters and processers are all local which allowed for faster results and an uncommonly strong communication network. HomeStreet is a direct seller and has the longest standing relationship with FannieMae dating back to 1937. The two most important things were customer service and community service as we strived to impact everyone that we came in contact with.

The two most important things I learned from this internship was how to develop working relationships with my boss and coworkers, and how to see needs as they arise without being told.I conducted extensive research for my agent regarding owner information for properties in Oregon and Washington. I created organized and easy to read spreadsheets with the information I gathered and communicated my findings with my agent.

I learned and experienced the industry of wine, from the growing and agricultural process to the distribution and marketing process. I participated in every aspect of the industry which allowed the development of valuable skills and new experiences. I loved being immersed in a culture I had previously little exposure to. It created new thoughts in regards to my understanding of business models and how they are developed and implemented. Dedicating myself to this while in school was a valuable lesson in time management.

When I started in this position I did not have a lot of technology skills. What I did have were people skills that allowed me to approach the responsibilities in a unique way. During my interview process I was honest about my lack of I.T. knowledge, but was confident I could still add value to the department. The most valuable lesson I got to practice each day was customer service. I.T. can be a very difficult subject for people to identify with, and as I became more practiced in technology I was able to combine personal skills with technical know how to help customers. After three months I was offered a promotion, and thrived in a department I had no previous industry knowledge or experience with.

This first experience in management was an extremely valuable one. Despite only overseeing six other employees I got to experience firsthand what it is like to manage and lead a team outside of a classroom, or seminar setting. Seeing the value culture brings to a team was always evident and I had the unique challenge of being the one who facilitated what kind of culture we were going to have within the group and how we lived it. I loved that I got to merge my passion for business and my likeness for sports during my time as the intramural director.
