Lakeland Dairies is a major dairy processing co-operative operating with revenues of €2bn. The Group processes 1.8 billion litres of milk annually, and exports large volumes of dairy produce to the UK, Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and other international markets worldwide to blue-chip customers such as Nestle, Ferrero Rocher, etc.The Head of Logistics is responsible for management of the warehousing, shipping and customer care teams, and creates a weekly production plan for the sites. The role has responsibility for 4 sites in the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland. The Head of Logistics is a member of the senior mgmt. team for the Division.Responsibilities- Centralised oversight of all logistics functions (fulfillment, stock control, warehousing, & transport); creation of logistics strategy - Ownership of a transport spend of €100m across road, sea, air.- Responsibility for a stock of €70m at any time across multi-site locations (internal & external)- Delivery of key performance measures for customers- Responsibility for all commercial & service level negotiations with 3PL service providers- Collaboration with the heads of functions and key stakeholders across the Group (planning, production, sales, quality, finance, I.T.); project management approach to keeping initiatives on track- Mentor site-based logistics teams: responsible for ensuring appropriate structures, metrics and routines are in place within the logistics departments.- Regulated industry; Liaising with govt agencies in ROI & NI

My role is to set the logistics strategy for the Group and optimise all transport, warehousing, stock control & fulfillment operations.Responsibilities- Centralised oversight of all logistics functions (fulfillment, stock control, warehousing, & transport) accounting for 500+ staff across 9 manufacturing sites in the Group across Ireland & UK- Continuous review & improvement of logistics processes to ensure best practice; building metrics to measure performance against - Ownership of a transport spend of £25m across 30+ delivery service providers- Responsibility for a stock of £50m at any time across multi-site locations (internal & external)- Delivery of key performance measures for customers- Integration of the UK & Irish logistics function to one common culture & ways of working- Responsibility for all commercial & service level negotiations with 3PL service providers- Collaboration with the heads of functions and key stakeholders across the Group (planning, production, sales, technical, finance, I.T.); project management approach to keeping initiatives on track- Mentor KMD site based logistics teams: responsible for ensuring appropriate structures, metrics and routines are in place within the logistics departments.

Implemented a structured planning and performance management process. Within two years the team had increased trading levels by over 50%- Handed responsibility for the recruitment and training of graduate salespeople. Devised and implemented a Graduate Programme providing graduates with a broad education across trading, finance, supply chain. By 2016 graduates of this programme contributed nearly 50% of company gross profit. - Tasked with spotting opportunities for business growth. Used data and trends to identify one new market and one new protein for 2016. These two opportunities came to fruition with 3,000t of trade conducted in 2016.

Raised the status of this team through organisation, training, recruitment and building relationships with internal & external stakeholders. This team came to be viewed as high-performing ‘value-adders’ and I was promoted to the Senior Management Team - Asked to consider ways to add value to customers in a highly competitive trading arena. Devised & implemented a loyalty program (‘Gold Club’) for customers unique within the industry. Captured 80% of our volume through Gold Club customers, and receive yearly customer feedback validating the value customers place on the added benefits of being a member.- The annual freight spend is one of the Company’s biggest expenses. Targeted an improvement in this by controlling freight directly with carriers. Reduced freight spend 5% on consistent basis.

A start-up e-commerce software company providing a web-based trade & supply chain platform electronically collecting the data involved in international trade, removing paper from the supply chain and reducing costs.Responsibilities- Sales and promotion of the platform to the logistics community locally & internationally- Acting as product manager and subject matter expert in developing the platform in conjunction with the CTO & his teamAchievements- Tasked with taking the product on the road and selling it to the freight forwarding community and potential software partners. Enlisted a large amount of the independent Irish forwarding community, and a major international one, onto the platform- Hired to assist in taking the platform from EU project stage to a commercial venture. Worked closely with the software development team to design a product to replicate real-life international trade scenarios. Resulted in an excellent product versatile in handling the many complex real-life trading scenarios
