About Luke Elliot Chan

I'm a second year international economics student at UBC studying at the Vancouer School of Economic's flagship program. I grew up in the Philippines and I moved to Canada to study and explore the potential economics has in reshaping our world. I'm working on gaining real-world experience in the Development Economics field, with my eyes set on making the world a better place. As the world faces so many intersectional and complex issues, we need an increasingly sophisticated understanding and approach to problem-solving. I'm excited about applying my skills and knowledge in the fields of economics, mathematics, business, politics, and philosophy to tackle these issues. Being in such a rigorous program, my analytical and critical thinking skills are always being pushed and my perspective is always being challenged.I love reading books on philosophy, economics, and politics, and I have found my personal reading journey immensely useful towards developing both professionally and personally. This passion for knowledge has fueled my writing and creative acitivites as well. I have gone to write articles for the Owl Pamphlet in high school and the IONA Exchange in university on topics ranging from the economics of happiness, the social ventures of Zambales in the Philippines, and much more.
