I joined the all-volunteer department as a firefighter in 1999. After a promotion to lieutenant and becoming an instructor, I was asked to be chief in 2007. As Chief, I was responsible for day-to-day operations and health of the department along with its fifty firefighters, determine best methods to recruit, oversee a budget, devise and implement departmental training and manage maintenance of all apparatus and equipment. I reported directly to the Mayor of Terrace Park. As Chief, it was my responsibility to respond to all emergencies and direct the fire crews to most safely and efficiently mitigate any emergency including but not limited to:1) Structure/vehicle fires in our jurisdiction and neighboring jurisdictions,2) motor vehicle collisions (including extrication),3) carbon monoxide leaks,4) medical emergencies including trauma,5) searches for missing individuals,6) mass casualty incidents including active shooter situations,7) natural disasters including river rescues and8) utilities emergencies.In addition, I was also certified as an Urban Search and Rescue Technician and EMT-Basic with specialized training in rope, swift water, confined space, trench, lost person search and structural collapse rescues and recoveries and served with the Hamilton County USAR team ten years.

Berstein-Frey, LLC was the first franchise sold by ImageFIRST. The general manager reported to me as well as the accounting team at the corporate offices and local sales staff. In all, I employed seven others; four of which over fifteen years each. I assisted in training other franchise locations on all aspects of operating a stand-alone business.
