    I characterized the optical properties of candidate salts for implentation in a prototype Concentrated Solar Power on Demand (CSPonD) device that uses a molten salt receiver, which is currently being built by the Masdar Institute, in Abu Dabhi. I performed FTIR spectroscopic analysis to measure the attenuation coefficients of the salts for different spectrum ranges, salt temperatures and impurities. I am also working to perfect the experimental setup for future optical measurements of high-temperature fluids. I am the second author on our most recent publication:M. Tetreault-Friend, L. Gray, S. Berdibek, T. McKrell, A. Slocum, Optical Properties of High Temperature Molten Salts Mixtures for Volumetrically Absorbing Solar Thermal Receiver Applications, Solar Energy (2017).

    As a participant in the 2015 MIT ThaiROP program, I traveled to Bangkok, Thailand. Under the umbrella of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol's Laboratory of Natural Products the project was to extract, purify, identify and test anticancer/antibacterial activity of secondary metabolites of an unknown fungus. A second project under Professor Dr. Aj. Piyajit involved testing the efficacy of an extract from Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a component of a popular Ginseng tea, on insulin signaling in human HepG2 cells. A new flow cytometry method for observing insulin resistance/sensitivity was developed.
