I am a scientist and technical expert in seabird and marine ecology, specializing in biologging (GPS and geolocator tracking of petrels, shearwaters, storm-petrels, albatrosses, and other seabirds), boat-based seabird surveys (distance sampling), and spatial and behavioral data analysis. My passion and expertise are rooted in all things seabirds and islands! Working across both sides of the Pacific, I engage in research, conservation, and management of seabirds. My work extends beyond pure research to support the transition to offshore wind energy generation, leveraging a data-driven and collaborative approach to science. I design and execute comprehensive field programs and analyze data to produce actionable insights that enhance our ability to protect marine fauna and address threats to them both on land and at sea.

I conduct work to support Australiaβs transition to offshore wind energy generation with a strong data-driven and collaborative approach to science. I design and execute field programs, and analyse information to produce scientific data products that strengthen our ability to protect seabirds and to understand and mitigate threats to them on land and at sea. Projects include: β’ Several international research collaborations on seabird spatial ecology. β’ Boat-based survey of Australian seabirds. β’ Biologging (satellite/geolocator tracking) of Australian seabirds. β’ Spatial ecology of Pterodroma petrels in Eastern Australia and Norfolk Island. β’ Pelagic seabird survey and marine mammal at-sea distribution in the central North Pacific Ocean, the Arctic and the entire coast of British Columbia and into Alaska. β’ Research project using biologgers (geolocators) and stable isotopes to reveal migratory movements of two species of storm-petrels in the North Pacific. β’ Bioacoustic monitoring for nocturnal seabirds on remote islands, cryptic wetland birds (e.g Yellow Rail), nocturnal owls, nightjars. β’ Using bioacoustic monitoring to assess nocturnal activity of Swinhoe's Storm-petrels and Japanese Murrelets in Kyushu, Japan. β’ Species at Risk inventory surveys in British Columbia. -
Senior Marine BiologistBiosis Pty Ltd May 2023 - PresentMelbourne, Victoria, AustraliaMarine ecology technical expert and research biologist. Specialising in ecology of seabirds. I have extensive experience designing and leading seabird biologging research, and conducting boat-based seabird surveys in the North and South Pacific. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversity Of The Sunshine Coast Nov 2022 - Apr 2023Academic research working on predicting fisheries bycatch of protected species in dynamic seascapes with A/Prof Kylie Scales at the University of the Sunshine Coast -
PhdMonash University Jan 2018 - Apr 2022Melbourne, AustraliaEndeavour Scholar at Monash University in Melbourne. Designed and conducted research on movement and trophic ecology of seabirds (Pterodroma petrels) that breed on offshore subtropical islands in Australia. My research answers questions about the conservation and ecology of pelagic seabirds and island ecosystems. -
Wildlife BiologistStantec Apr 2012 - Jan 2014Burnaby, BcLead and participated in a wide variety of wildlife studies including terrestrial breeding birds, seabirds, various Species at Risk, wildlife habitat assessments, amphibians and mammals. Worked in western, prairie, coastal and northern ecosystems. Prepared wildlife studies, lead and participated in field programs, prepared technical data reports, conducted data analysis, project coordination and management. Terrestrial songbird point counts across British Columbia and pelagic seabird surveys throughout coastal British Columbia. -
Seabird BiologistSimon Fraser University 2010 - 2012Santa Cruz Island; & Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve And Haida Heritage SiteUsed acoustic monitoring technology to document the recovery of nocturnal burrow nesting seabirds in Gwaii Haanas National Park and Haida Heritage Site of Coastal British Columbia. Conducted a study on the behavior of Ashy Storm-Petrels in relation to restoration activities in the California Channel Islands. Used infrared cameras to observe nocturnal bird behavior on Santa Cruz Island. -
