Whilst working at Cogent, I was involved in the administration and listing on the Channel Island Stock Exchange (“CISX”) of an open ended Fund. I was tasked with the day to day administration of two Property Funds, one being a Limited Partnership and the other a Private Company. I was tasked with the day to day administration of two Property Funds, one being a Limited Partnership and the other a Private Company. This allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the different requirements for each type of fund. Within a short period of time, I was able to strengthen the professional relationship between the Administration team in Guernsey and the Investment Management team, who were based in London, Luxembourg and Germany. Further to my day to day tasks, I took on a large amount of project work which involved compliance, client take on, client due diligence and the upkeep of key client information and administration systems. I carried out a number of tasks, including making payments and dealing with incoming statements on a day to day basis. I was also in charge of a number of administration tasks including preparing statements for clients and year end reporting/annual validations. I had significant one to one communication with clients, via email, telephone conversations and meetings. IBM offered a structured work placement providing the opportunity to work in a general business role supporting a team of sales representatives. We were given a high level of training and education in people management and organisation skills upon joining the company which related well to my degree course. My initial role within the company consisted of working closely with… Show more As part of my university degree I was required to spend a year working on placement in an industry relevant to my degree. IBM offered a structured work placement providing the opportunity to work in a general business role supporting a team of sales representatives. We were given a high level of training and education in people management and organisation skills upon joining the company which related well to my degree course. My initial role within the company consisted of working closely with a senior operations manager in order to provide support to 30 members of the sales force. By gaining the trust and respect of my manager and sales representatives, I became the primary point of contact for all matters involving sales targets, monitoring of deals and support for the sales reps in the field. This required constant interaction and communication with all levels of staff, from floor level sales representatives to senior management. I had to be instantly up to date with how the business operated, especially as I changed roles mid-way through my placement. Ultimately this gave me the opportunity to expand my role into new areas of the business. Being motivated to outperform my daily targets allowed me to build a strong network of contacts and meet the management team’s needs. I have a strong knowledge of the IT industry and I was integral in re-structuring the management team to help the business meet and exceed objectives for the year. I developed strong interpersonal and transferable skills which I can apply to future careers. Overall, the experience gained from this year proved I can adapt to working in large teams and can comfortably work with all levels of staff. Show less
