I work in aerosol science, studying the generation, transport, and removal of hazardous particulates that could otherwise go on to affect public health. In my capacity as a research scientist at AECL, I look at the behaviour and transport of radioactive aerosols in the containment structure of nuclear reactors, and how they can be released to the atmosphere. I am the primary holder of the SMART (Simple Model for Activity Removal and Transport) safety analysis computer code, and also work with the GOTHIC containment thermalhydraulics code. I compliment this with experimental work where I study different phenomena that influence the generation of radio-aerosols, and am developing different tools for emergy filtered containment venting systems.I recently finished my PhD at the Royal Military College of Canada, where I looked at how radioactive aerosols can be generated and subsequently dispersed into the air, with a focus on the nuclear security side of things, specifically dealing with aerosolization from a radiological dispersion device.
