My journey in the world of technology began not in a classroom, but through a natural curiosity and passion for understanding how things work. While traditional education didn't captivate my interest (I was less than interested and just mis-behaved, forever being in trouble), I discovered an innate talent for technology at an early age. Even as a child, I was the point of reference for friends and family needing IT support. My year 4 school report famously stated, "Luke has outstanding computer skills," foreshadowing my future path.At age 15, I took the initiative to launch my own PC repair business, to supplement my income from a job washing pots and pans at a local tearoom. I knew I had to advertise and ‘spread the word’ in my hometown to generate income. So, one afternoon, I bypassed the printing quota on the school’s network and printed thousands of leaflets advertising my services- the photocopier ran out of toner. I found myself once again in trouble at school- this time because apparently bypassing the printing quota wasn’t acceptable, and photocopier toner costs hundreds of pounds… My response was a suggestion to improve the substandard network security; you can imagine how well-received this comment was!My academic journey wasn't without its hurdles. I failed miserably in my A-Levels, achieving three U grades and one E. However, this setback was due to my dedication to building my business rather than a lack of ability. By then, my venture had expanded from repairing home PCs to providing comprehensive IT support for local businesses, including network, server, and infrastructure services. In January 2010, leveraging a £7,500 bank loan (creatively secured under the guise of purchasing a car- as I knew they wouldn’t give me a business startup loan), I founded LMS Computer Services Ltd. From humble beginnings, the company evolved into a dynamic enterprise with a team of 30 with multi-million annual revenue, delivering IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and cloud services to clients around the globe. In March 2023, at age 32, I successfully sold LMS Computer Services as part of a strategic acquisition to a private-equity-backed company. This milestone allowed me to pivot towards new opportunities, where I now share my ability, expertise and experience in my roles as a non-executive director, investor, and advisor to both start-ups and established businesses alike.Today, I enjoy traveling and spending quality time with my young family while continuing to support and assist in the growth and endeavour of my clients.
