Within this role I worked for one of the largest sub-prime lenders in the market, as a senior manager within the company’s Risk and Compliance department. Myself and the Compliance Manager (as the two managers of that department), worked very closely with the Director of Legal and Risk to establish and provide a robust Risk framework, promoting firm-wide regulatory compliance.I was a key point of contact for legal or regulatory advice within the company, dealing with queries from all departmental levels of the business. I am fully conversant with CONC, GDPR and highly skilled in the areas of Consumer Credit, TCF and Conduct. Within this role, I was solely responsible for the management of all regulatory complaints submitted to the company and carried out Root Cause Analysis so that improvement recommendations could be made to the Board of Directors. As such, I was responsible for helping the firm improve its overall customer experience by suggesting and implementing initiatives that would increase the level of customer satisfaction and importantly, reduce consumer complaints.I also dealt with any legal proceedings issued against the company from inception to conclusion, including Court attendance where applicable. Furthermore, I monitored changes to the legal framework and advised on the impact of any new legislation and regulatory guidance.I also assisted with the identification and management of vulnerable customers and I was an integral part of the company’s approach to TCF, greatly improving the company’s culture in this respect.

Whilst working at Silverbeck Rymer Solicitors, I managed a large case load of 275 Claimant Civil claims with a keen focus on litigation and billing; maximising the company’s incoming costs where possible and appropriate. I dealt with clients on a daily basis and had continued exposure to mass volume litigation, namely: drafting proceedings; Directions; Standard Disclosure; Court Order compliance; Witness Statements; Pre-Trial Checklists; Briefing Counsel; and full Trial/Hearing preparation. In terms of billing I was regularly in the Top 10 Billers firm-wide and I was the No.4 biller at the end of 2014. In the financial year of 2014-2015 I billed over £300,000 for the firm.

During my time working offshore for Law at Work, I managed a client base of 60+ businesses; varying from small to medium sized enterprises to larger international companies. I provided comprehensive HR and Employment Law compliance advice to clients on a daily basis; dealing with personnel issues such as poor performance, misconduct, capability, grievances, redundancy situations, recruitment/selection and appraisals, amongst others.A large part of my role involved defending Employment Tribunal claims through litigation and advocacy; participating in pre-hearing conciliation, mediation and negotiation where applicable.Furthermore, I also drafted Statements of Employment Terms; Employee Handbooks; Letters of Appointment; Compromise Agreements and all day-to-day HR correspondence for my clients. I regularly met with my clients for ad hoc meetings but also periodical reviews, to build and maintain a rapport with them and to ensure continued legal compliance.In addition to the above, I also provided regular training sessions and practical workshops to clients on numerous personnel issues, enabling them to work within the remit of Employment Law and also in accordance with best practice.

At Shoosmiths Solicitors, I initially worked within the Personal Injury Department but was later promoted to the Employment Law Department within the same office.In the Personal Injury Department I had a caseload of 200 Personal Injury claims which I managed from inception to litigation.In the Employment Law Department my caseload was varied and involved claims of gross misconduct, unlawful deductions of wages, breaches of contract, insolvency, redundancy, unfair dismissal, constructive unfair dismissal and discrimination claims.I also undertook some additional, voluntary roles at Shoosmiths. Firstly, I was the Chairperson of the social committee and was instrumental in raising over £22,000 for the office charity at the time: Brain Tumour UK. I also shared joint responsibility over the office's Corporate Social Responsibility fund.I was also elected by my peers to be an Employee Forum Representative. The Employee Forum's purpose was for Employee Representatives to consult with management and to provide feedback from across the organisation. We met with the CEO and Chairman regularly to facilitate this additional role.
