A member of the independent Joint Audit, Risk & Assurance Panel (JARAP) which has been established by Leicestershire and Rutland Constabulary, covering the separate roles and offices of both the Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) and the Chief Constable. It has been established in line with the principles of good governance as laid down by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Financial Management Code of Practice for the Police Service of England and Wales. The JARAP consists of myself and four other independently appointed individuals. We meet in public throughout the year, report on our findings and make recommendations for improvements in the management of risk, internal controls and governance to the PCC and Chief Constable. We also report on progress made by both respective individuals in response to recommendations.The purpose of the JARAP as an independent body is to seek assurance overthe adequacy of the following:- The risk management and the internal control framework operated by the PCC and Chief Constable.- The effectiveness of their respective governance arrangements. - The appointment, support and quality of the work of internal and external auditors as they provide assurance on risk management, internal controls and the annual accounts through their work.- Financial and non-financial performance to the extent that it affects the PCC and Chief Constable’s exposure to risk, weakens the control environment and undermines their ability to provide good value for money.- The financial reporting process.

Saffron Young People’s Project (SYPP) is a voluntary, not-for-profit detached youth work organisation which works on the streets and open spaces of the Saffron Lane Estate in Leicester.The strengths of the project lie in the ability to respond to the needs of young people as they arise, enabling the project to be young person led. A small but dedicated team work with young people on the estate, providing help and advice on the issues they raise, including family, drugs, bullying, alcohol, school, smoking, friends, activities, sexual health and relationships.SYPP also provides street sessions, information on what’s going on in the area and citywide, opportunities to visit other centres, project work and activities. SYPP provides confidential and emotional support along with practical advice and assistance.Founded in 1993, Saffron Young People’s Project is the longest standing voluntary detached youth project in Leicestershire. The project was set up to work with young people on the Saffron Lane Estate in Leicester to help them challenge the issues that living in a disadvantaged area bring such as unemployment, bullying, racism, social education, exclusion, low income, and sexual health awareness. Saffron Young People’s Project was incorporated on the 26th November 2008. It is a voluntary, not for profit organisation registered as a company limited by guarantee with no share capital. It is a registered charity. The company is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors and on a day-to-day basis by a full time Project Leader.

Managing the property portfolio, including a 57 unit serviced office building, and associated staff with responsibility for facilities management and all contracts. Results include increased workforce job satisfaction and reduced sick days. Completed a full review and retender of all contracts in place resulting in heavily reduced costs, increased profitability and improved SLA’s going forward. Personally lead a customer service review to engage better with all stakeholders resulting in reduced debt levels, opportunity to increase margins whilst creating a more open and productive client relationship.

Visual Chemistry is the company behind a range of humorous alternative versions of the popular Top Trump card game. The products sales had slipped when the main distributor took its foot off the pedal. I was asked to support the owner in improving the sales, marketing and brand strategies. I supported the business in creating and implementing a new sales strategy focusing on the markets that yielded the highest margins for both Visual Chemistry and the retailer. I was responsible for acquiring new accounts and customers. The products lead themselves to online marketing and this forms the backbone of the marketing and PR strategy that I created, update and monitor. Innovative and effective POS support was designed and created to ensure key messages were relayed to customers in outlets. The role involves working in a small team, with a limited marketing budget but has already led to sales, new customers and an improved strategic outlook for the future of the business.
