About Luke Radke, Rse
Hey! If you're reading this, you might be bored or just confused. I went from accounting to mechanics; but it wasn't as big of a jump as you think. All the skills I learned in my past positions I'm able to apply in my current position..Just because I don't have the six letters after my name, doesn't mean all that education and experience is gone. it just means my accounting help is no longer governed by some crazy rules.Anyway, enough of that boring stuff. What's really important is that I am an avid photographer and love night, street and urbex photography. Other than that, I am a huge geek that loves the latest in technology and playing tabletop RPG's...a D20, that's how I roll! Feel free to reach out to chat about my work experience, or to shoot the breeze about the outdoors, photography, tech, or if you need a DM for your D&D game or a Keeper for your CoC game!

Assistant Controller
Albi Homes is a luxury home builder, established and operating in Calgary, Alberta. While at Albi, I oversaw the cash management function. I prepeared weekly cash forecasts for senior management, explaining what would be happening within the next two months, factoring in all singed sales and expenses. In addition to this I reconciled the executive expenses. This included their credit cards, and causing purchases to be paid by them, if they did not fall within the scope of the business. I reviewed all payroll postings, for both Albi Homes and Albi Renova. I ensured they were accurate and that the proper deductions were being made. Lastly, I oversaw monthly financial statement preparation for both ALbi Homes and Albi Renova. I ensured the statements were accurate, and asked for notes to be recorded on any significant variances. My mark of excellence was made, when I successfully mapped and programmed an accurate cashflow statement in the ERP system. The system did not contain any pre-programmed financial statements, and one that management needed was an accurate cash flow statement. It had been attempted to be programmed for the last ten years, and was done unsuccessfully and was declared impossible. I took the challenge on and had one mapped and programmed within a few months. Not only would the report be a great asset to management, but it would also shave several days off the month end process.
Controller
Unified Valve is a small Calgary operation. While there I oversaw the accounting team, consisting of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the admin staff. I prepared the bank reconciliations and also conducted credit checks on new customers. I was responsible for approving their purchases and monitored their accounts if they purchased over their limits.I left my mark of excellence when I reorganised the accounts payable/receivable functions. The processes were not mapped out very well, and working with the CFO I established processes that were easily followed, and ensured the associated tasks were carried out efficiently.
Financial Controller
Weiss-Johnson offered an incredible experience. In this role I saw myself grow from a staff member to a leader. Walking into this role as a newly designated CMA, I had the confidence to overcome any challenge. The entire experience in this role established marks of excellence for me. I was able to go into a department with one staff member, get other's hired, delegate responsibilities appropriately and increase the standard of the accounting records.I reprogrammed the accounting software, breaking it into profit centres so revenues and expenses could be better recorded and reported on. Prior to this, everything was lumped into a few accounts, and revenues/expenses from the different profit centres were not discernible.Despite the above, the milestone achievement was the selection, programming, testing, and implementing of an ERP system for the three Weiss-Johnson companies. this replaced the six programs currently being used. What makes this special is that it was only myself, and one assistant working on this colossal task. After approximately six months it was complete and implemented. There were no setbacks, or failures except a few security restrictions on user profiles which were easily corrected. Not only did this unify the records for all three Weiss-Johnson companies, but it also replaced the six disconnected programs being used and eliminated the repetition of work.
Accountant
I worked at Cameron before it was acquired by Schlumberger. While at Cameron I achieved several important objectives that improved the Canadian operations. The first major achievement I accomplished was after the company lost some key staff, and all knowledge of a critical intercompany billing function. Within two weeks I reverse engineered the process and published the memo on how to perform the billings. This ensured Canadian operations were able to post payroll for expats, and ensure global intercompany transactions were processed properly.Another milestone was the creation of proper mileage logs for employees with company vehicles. Working with the fixed assets accountant, I was able to create a detailed and protected file employees could use to record their mileage accurately. This file also aided in the tracking of company vehicles and the accurate processing of vehicle tax benefits for the employees.Due to Cameron being an American company, quarterly SOX compliance testing was carried out. While testing the billing function of one of the service locations, a critical finding was uncovered with the billing. There were significant billing errors which resulted in unreliable financials from that location. I identified the error, documented the finding and was able to mentor the office administrator to ensure any billing issues were corrected. This resulted in billing errors to drop drastically from 20%+ to less than four percent monthly. In addition to the above achievements I was also tasked with maintaining 600+ vendor accounts, mentoring all new AP staff, monthly financial reports and MD&A's, and weekly cost variance analysis.
