At IHMC I assisted with the research and development of human exoskeletons. This included designing hip belt passive actuation and specifying motors for the TALOS exoskeleton project; TALOS is a project run by SOCOM to develop an exoskeleton for soldiers that will allow them to run faster, jump higher, and lift more. The TALOS project was developed jointly with NASA at the Johnson Space Center, where I worked with NASA engineers and university academics for a one month sprint. We worked directly with a navy seal assigned to NASA to design a product geared towards the extreme demands of Navy Seals. Using MatLab, I interpreted Motion Capture Data to determine the torques exerted on the Seal's legs while walking, running, and jumping. Using this data, and our desired performance enhancements, I determined the minimum motor specifications to reach these goals. I also designed the passively actuated hip joint that interfaced between the spine (designed by NASA engineers) and the legs (designed by IHMC engineers). This required me to actively collaborate with both subteams. I was also involved in Project Mina at IHMC, developing exoskeletons for paraplegics. I designed the backpack and upper body interface for the iteration currently under development. I also assisted in the design of new actuators for the exoskeleton; this involved designing a linkage actuator for each active joint. I designed the power failure lock mechanism for the actuator, which involved a spring-loaded solenoid. I also assisted in the creation of JUnit tests for the DARPA Robotics Challenge team at IHMC. This included test coverage of IHMC walking algorithms and user interfaces. Despite a limited knowledge of Java, I displayed a strong commitment to and aptitude for learning new material and applying it to real tasks.

I was hired at Scholastic to do statistical analysis of the www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/ domain and its sub-pages. To do this I created automatically generated weekly and monthly reports for my supervisor using Omniture. I determined how users accessed the domain and how they interacted with the website. I recognized user trends and the effects of new features on user interaction. I worked directly with front end developers and designers to help create the best possible user experience. My role at Scholastic expanded to include the launch of the Scholastic Warehouse Facebook Initiative. I created Facebook pages for every warehouse in the country and worked with managers in the field to associate these pages with physical locations. I coordinated countrywide perks for ‘check-ins’ at each location for educators attending warehouse sales. I also provided front-end support for the internal launch of Scholastic’s new intranet. This included educating each department about the new versatility of the intranet and its productivity tools and helping employees through the transition from the previously existing intranet.
