Tempus uses all the data about a patient - DNA, RNA, clinical - to drive better treatment decisions that save lives. Behind the scenes, machine learning and AI powers predictions that inform personalized care. The goal is for each patient to benefit from the treatment of others who came before by providing physicians with tools that learn as the company gathers more data.I built the Machine Learning Algos engineering team. We developed clinical tests that relied on data from patients such as their DNA & RNA, slide images, and even ECG for cardio patients. Two examples include Tempus|HRD, which predicts a patient’s ability to repair cellular damage, and Tempus|TO (tumor origin), which predicts where a metastasized tumor likely originated to better target care.

I joined eSpark as CTO and grew the company alongside David Vinca, CEO, and the leadership & product teams. My proudest accomplishments during this period include:* Hired, coached and helped grow a diverse set of employees, including engineers at all levels, designers, product managers, learning designers, and support. The best part of this job is bringing in incredible people and helping them grow their impact.* Grew our impact on students from a few hundred when I started, up to over a million today. Our products - eSpark and Frontier - help teachers with the difficult task of finding and leveling engaging, impactful content and differentiating it for each students' unique needs. Students show concrete, measurable gains on a variety of assessments and have better success in school and ultimately, in life as a result.* Our technology team, stack, processes are robust and effective. We run primarily a set of Rails-based services, with React and Elm on the front-end, Convox and Docker for dev-ops on AWS, Cypress for testing and a very solid set of engineering best practices to back it up.* We have robust data tools to analyze standardized tests and other student performance data to place students at the right level and follow their progress. Our data tools are written in R, Python, and Ruby and include some explorations of machine learning and as well as classic data science.

After working as an engineer for a few years, I created and then managed the first Platform team to focus specifically on Mobile: the Platmobile team. Working with engineers, designers, we helped Facebook pivot from the web to mobile, fully expanding to iPhone, Android, and the mobile web (as well as now-defunct platforms like Blackberry).If you've ever logged in to an iPhone or Android app using Facebook, then you've used the software my team built. We made it possible for people to distribute their apps using people's social connections.

I was on the founding engineering team for Facebook Connect, now used by billions of people to log in to apps and websites using Facebook. We also built the JavaScript library for Facebook, now the primary way for developers to integrate with the platform, and built the first major full integrations with iPhone and Android apps. I wrote the first implementation of the OAuth 2.0 protocol on a major site and represented Facebook on the OpenID Foundation board.

Designed, coded, and maintained software to handle "broken" customer orders within the Amazon supply chain. This led to dramatic improvements in customer experience for those orders that missed their promised ship dates.
