About Luke Tofte

I am a controls engineer with ten years of international experience in robotics and industrial systems in automotive manufacturing environments. I joined FANUC robotics in 2013, and I have worked on both client-facing projects for several auto industry giants as well as internal R&D work related to product integrations. My experience includes leading software projects through planning, design, development, testing, installation, debugging, and final support. I enjoy making systems that work for everyone, with a goal of removing as much stress and tedium from a client's day to day operations. In addition to my experience, I earned my degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Tech.

FANUC Robotics is the world's leading supplier of automation for manufacturing including robotics, CNCs and Motion Control, and ROBOMACHINE machining centers. I was hired to provide development, testing, commissioning, and support of industrial control systems for both on-site and off-site for domestic and international customers (e.g. GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda). I also drive internal R&D efforts for integrations with new products to FANUC products.Project highlights:• Led R&D and execution for integration of machine vision system Matrox Vision Systems used for vision processing for quality control. Collaborated with GM’s vision team to build an error proofing system now used in three plants. Partnered with FANUC process engineers to adjust workflow, trained engineers in Matrox use, and reworked the project to branch from handling seam seal to also handle LASD and Antichip seal systems.• Resolved integration issues with a color quality system that uses BYK instruments with multiple sensors on a robot arm that take up to 50 vehicle measurements in a single pass and display data for analysis. • Created logic for supplying cleaning fluid to an arm and spinning brush of a Wandress Sword Brush system used to clean dust from vehicles prior to paint booth entry. • Executed a time-sensitive project for a client to develop a PLC to branch a single zone into five separate zones. Delegated tasks to engineering team and remotely commissioned the project in Mexico. • Traveled to China to train FANUC engineers on commissioning and supporting fully-operational 24 robot paint systems and GUI.
