JER Roofing and Construction Ltd is a family-run construction business with offices based in the South West and in the Midlands, operating nationwide. Roofing of all types is our specialty and our passion.

Sole responsibility for maintaining and driving a nightlife venue that has been a local favourite for over a decade in the heart of Bristol. Me and my team saw consistent profit during my appointment and made COVID-19 adaptations we were proud of. My time here came to a close in the midst of the pandemic.

Pushing myself into situations of responsibility to prove myself - including regular attendance and minute-taking of performance meetings. I eventually built rapport with the right people and began my management career.

After a lifestyle shake-up and relocation I sought a fresh start.

I have been moving around a few different College departments doing different types of jobs from Account Management to Data Entry and general admin. My current role is as a general administrator and assistant for the Employee Services team. I try to offer help to the team here with my IT skills I have learned in the past year as an Apprentice as much as possible to gain experience and provide evidence whilst I study towards finishing my NVQ in December 2016.

My responsibilities as an Apprentice are flexibile to the Chamber's needs. First and foremost, my role within the organisation, and with the College, is to bridge any gaps between the Chamber, and the College. To cross refence data gathered by both, and analyse any weaknesses or particular strenghts, and put forward suggestions, to better the connection between the two organisations. I have spent a lot of my early days and weeks assisting events, and attending meetings with clients to meet some of the local companies we work so closely with. Getting to know these Businesses opens me up to make reasoned conclusions and provide evidence when analysing certain areas where a bridge can be built.

A combination of an exciting job role in one of the most interesting workplaces imaginable made for the most phenomenal Summer experience I could have hoped for. Working in the Education/Business Partnership Center meant that I was involved with different styles of work. I would spend some days making tea for vital corporate meetings, other days I would have my tolerance tested by a mass of nine year olds. Different days required different mindsets, and every day there were new people to meet, and new things to learn. There would be at least 8 tours per week, often two per day, so I was definitely thrown in at the deep end, which I feel is what made it so valuable, in terms of the skills I learned. By the final couple of weeks, I began leading tours after I felt I had absorbed enough information to do so, which went very well and I had some very positive feedback.This was my first real insight into a professional working environment, and the varied skills I had to learn make it stellar experience which I am very proud of.
