As a first-generation Latina, I strive to improve the well-being of underserved communities by providing the tools needed to navigate complex systems and empower the future generation of young professionals in science. I believe that through collaboration with community-based organizations, we can bridge the gap between academia and the community at large to improve quality of life and reduce negative health outcomes. As a recent graduate of the Master of Public Health program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), I have extensive experience in prevention education, community engagement, health promotion, and intervention implementation with underserved communities. As a student, I participated in various research training programs, for which I held increasing roles and responsibilities throughout my educational career. During the last 4 years, my work has primarily focused on obesity prevention with children and their families, yet I also have experience in the areas of tobacco, and community nutrition education, diabetes, and cervical cancer prevention, and working with pregnant mothers. Through these roles, I have used best practices to implement health education for underserved communities in both English and Spanish, coordinated project-related activities with community partners, and provided leadership and guidance to other students. In my current role as project manager, I have learned to navigate various administrative processes within these offices and in the university setting and I monitor and track two grants simultaneously. I have extensive experience in developing program evaluation and tracking tools, in addition to, average data analysis skills using SPSS. I am also detail-oriented, friendly, and approachable, and I have excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. These strengths, combined with deep and varied academic, internship, and employment experience, have prepared me to succeed in my roles.
