As Head of Melt Shop I am overall responsible for the delivery of slabs in a safe, stable and cost-efficient way. I am managing the tactical and strategical planning at the Melt Shop. Focus areas are strengthening of the safety culture, implementing a new organization with reduced manning, delivering on Outokumpu’s vision and mission and to drive change towards safe and stable production. I have staff responsibility for 185 persons divided into ten direct reporting managers. I am part of the site management team. I have delivered a productivity increase of 5 % without investments, implemented a new organisation with manning decrease of 10% and reached the record of having 365 days without serious injuries in the Melt Shop.

As General Manager EHSE at the stainless steel producer Outokumpu, I was coordinating the management system and ensured the fulfilment of internal and external demands within health and safety, fire and risk management, energy and environment for the site. I reported to the Site Manager, was a part of the Group Safety Network and had 4-10 direct reporting employees. I delivered a certification according to the quality management system standard IATF 16949 after just 12 months of preparation and I decreased the frequency of serious injuries at the site with 70 %.This position has given me valuable experience of systematic development of management systems, safety behaviour development and creation of line of sight in strategy work.

The agency formulates regulations and monitors compliance through supervision and by issuing permits within the transport area. As the Management Strategist, I had a central role in the long-term strategic development and change management in combination with operational management of day-to-day issues on behalf of the Road and Rail Director. I collaborated with the various departments of the agency, Government Offices of Sweden and other government agencies. I developed the collaboration with the unions and introduced a systematic method for risk assessment of organisational changes. I also arranged the successful conference Järnvägens säkerhetskonferens with the theme steering, organisation and safety culture. As Management Strategist, I learned how the public agencies are governed and how the agency’s operations is giving a safe and efficient transportation system in Sweden.

SSAB is a global steel company with a leading position in high-strength steels and related services. In the role as Lean Manager, I was optimizing the production planning with focus on material flow from Blast Furnaces in Luleå and Oxelösund, via the Hot Rolling Mill, to the Cold Rolling Mill and Cut to Length Lines in Borlänge. The overall purpose was high delivery performance and flow efficiency to meet customer demands. I delivered an extensive action plan for operational excellence based on high participation of involved employees in creative workshops. I also introduced a mission control meeting for the production planning department. I learned how to optimize the transportation and material flow between production sites and how important employee involvement is for achieving targets.

As Production Manager Cold Rolling at SSAB in Borlänge, I was ensuring that the operations at Pickling, Acid Regeneration Plant, Tandem Cold Rolling and Roll Shop were conducted in accordance with vision and strategy, budget, business plans and production system. Focus areas were health and safety, organization, continuous improvement work and development of facility. I had staff responsibility for 80-180 persons divided in to two to five sections/first line managers. Without productivity losses in the flow, I implemented a new organisation with a manning decrease of 20%. I also remade the meeting and management system to ensure collaboration, high efficiency and delivery of strategy and targets. Being a second line manager gave me experience of being a leader of leaders and how this influences my time application, leadership skills and work values.

Within Production Borlänge, I had the role as Project Manager or Internal Consultant working with organizational development, health & safety, lean management and leadership development on behalf of the site manager. I was identifying development areas, implementing co-creative projects and driving change. Assignments within e.g. production, human resources, quality management, health & safety and internal communication. I was part of the management team of the EHS department which was responsible for health & safety, security and environment at the site in Borlänge. I organised full-day management training sessions every month for 100 managers and key position holders with operations and developed the organisation and ways of working on shop floor. This position gave me valuable experience of stakeholder management, co-creative development processes and workshops, leadership training. I learned to work independently and how to involve people in the processes and by that achieve set targets.

Cut to Length Line 4 at SSAB in Borlänge was built in 2011 to meet the customer demand of high strength steels in sheet format. I was interim manager during five months and this was my first managerial position with 25 direct reporting operators. Together with the team I was ensuring that the production was meeting the customer demand in a safe and efficient way.This position included leadership challenges in an environment where new technologies required the development of ways of working, skills and equipment at the same time. I delivered increased level of house keeping and safety routines. I learned the challenges of being the first line manager and how important it is to develop people, machinery and organisation at the same time.
