Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was ethablished on 24th November 1994. His Royal Highness the Pertuan Agung proclaimed the establishment of UMS under Section 6(1) of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971.This ninth university in Malaysia expanded rapidly since the early days of its inception. His Royal Highness the Pertuan Agung proclaimed the establishment of UMS under Section 6(1) of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971.This ninth university in Malaysia expanded rapidly since the early days of its inception. The management office started activities at the Ministry of Education, Kuala Lumpur later on shifted to Kota Kinabalu. Teaching and research commenced in 1995 in rented buildings. Physical development of the permanent campus on 9,999 acre piece of land started in August 1995. The UMS moved to the permanent campus in 1999 but constructions of physical infrastructures continuous until today. The latest additions was the School of Medicine. Currently, UMS established branch at Labuan, Sandakan, Tawau and several others throughout Malaysia.Internal enrichment are actively being pursued especially with regards to quality of teaching, learning and research.Years that followed the acquisition of building facilities for teaching and research have witnessed the emergence of an increasing number of schools, centres and units.
