Lutz is a skilled and accomplished urban planner with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. He has acquired a diverse range of skills and knowledge in the field of urban planning, and his work has focused on developing innovative solutions to complex urban challenges.Lutz holds a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town, where he graduated his final year thesis with Cum Laude. His final year thesis focused on urban form and growth, and proposed a unique concept for future settlement growth in the Cape Winelands region of South Africa. This innovative concept aimed to prevent urban sprawl and promote the dispersion of urban settlements along strong movement routes, connected by agriculture to create better food security in the region.Lutz worked as a District Spatial Planner for the Helderberg District at the City of Cape Town Council (public sector), where he was responsible for developing short to long-term metropolitan, district, local, site, and sector-based spatial plans, frameworks, strategies, policies, guidelines, and implementation tools to guide investments made by communities, the public, and the private sector. He played a key role in preparing the Helderberg District Spatial Development Framework, and the delineation of the urban edge as part of the Cape Town Municipal Spatial Development Framework.Lutz also gained experience in the private sector as a Project Manager and Urban Planner, where he managed various professionals involved in the development process, including town planners, urban designers, architects, landscape architects, environmentalists, civil engineers, electrical engineers, transport engineers, land surveyors, attorneys, and consults various state entities. He also engages and gained input into projects from Local Government, Provincial Government, National Government, and private investors.He has also undergone additional short courses, such as Navigating Research Writing, Advance MS Projects, SharePoint 2016, Project Management Body of Knowledge, and Portfolio Project Management.Overall, Lutz is a highly skilled urban planner with experience in developing various spatial plans and managing the development process.
