Dr. Luz Evelia Martin del Campo is a first-generation college graduate born in Guadalajara, México, and a scholar in Ecological Anthropology and Gender Studies. Her gender analysis framework examines from 1991 to the present, the anthropogenic influences impacting tropical protected areas, conservation, sustainable development, land use, landscape change, and vernacular environmental maps in the Lacandón Rainforest in Chiapas, México. She earned her B.A. degree in Political Science, and M.A. degree in Applied Urban Anthropology at The City College of New York-CUNY, and her Ph.D. at the University of Florida, Gainesville where she was an Alumni-Land Use and Environmental Change Institute (LUECI) Fellow. Her research in both the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil and Lacandón Rainforest in México was supported by LUECI, the National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) “Working Forest in the Tropics,” program, and the National Science Foundation “Ecology in an Era of Globalization,” research and travel awards. She is also a past Tenenbaum Leadership Initiative Fellow at the Milano New School for Management and Urban Policy in New York City. Lastly, she presented her environmental research on the Lacandón Rainforest at St. Hilda's College-University of Oxford, 2023, St. John’s College-University of Oxford, 2022, Green Templeton College-University of Oxford, 2019, and at the British Museum in London, England, 2016. Her portfolio spans more than 15 years of working as a university professor combined with executive management and leadership development experience at private and public universities, a non-governmental organization at the United Nations, and non-profit organizations. She also directed strategic planning and management, leadership and community development, Board of Director's governance, fiscal oversight, fundraising, program/project assessments, human resources, mentoring, enrollment, transfer & recruitment, curriculum development, and research initiatives in New York, California, Israel, and Morocco. Trained by the Dominican Republic Ambassador (Minerva Bernardino), and Uganda Ambassador (Dr. Perezi Kamunanwire), at an NGO at the United Nations on policies dealing with Labor and Gender, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. Assisted Mexican Ambassador (Ruben Beltran Guerrero) with informal labor policies in New York as a consultant, and was also an invited participant in México’s President Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa’s New York City Economic Summit.
