As a higher education professional and a lifelong learner, my talents and skills lead me to the body of scholarship and research. I am able to effectively promote diversity and awareness, create a vibrant learning atmosphere, and constructively challenge the norms that perpetuate white-centered research through demonstrating my skills in language and communication; ethnography; interdisciplinary studies; and qualitative research. Given my expansive work experiences, I am able to execute my abilities in ethical professional practice; leadership; student development; advising; mental health; crisis response; emergency management; and equity, diversity, and inclusion.Through my passion for teaching and working/collaborating with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external stakeholders, my unwavering curiosity for language and how one’s linguistic dexterity grants access or denies access in higher education, or other settings, is a critical point of interest. My research interests and areas include gatekeeping/access based on the intersection of race and language, educational linguistics, linguistic profiling, raciolinguistics, discourse analysis, body language, interpersonal communication, and conversational interaction/style.
