Worked aboard MV Immortalis, a 45m ex-Japanese fishing vessel converted into a luxury charter yacht equipped with commercial Niigata systems. During a 9-month tenure, focused on extensive troubleshooting and upgrades in preparation for surveys and sale. Key responsibilities included:- Diagnosing and resolving power and network issues for bridge equipment- Contributing to the upgrade of refrigeration and air conditioning systems- Maintenance and upgrades to bow thruster hydraulics and electric logic- Identifying and rectifying earth faults- Maintaining and optimizing DC systems for uninterrupted power supply- Conducting routine and emergency maintenance on engines, pumps, valves, piping, and interior appliances- Supporting vessel sale processes by effectively communicating engineering systems to prospective buyers and surveyors- Proficient in interpreting and creating technical drawings for clear communication and implementation of engineering solutions- Overseeing bunkering and vessel trimming operations- Generating detailed engineering reports for logbooks, providing high-level updates for stakeholders- Managing inventory monitoring and procurement

Before deciding what the next steps were in my engineering career, I took a bartending job in beautiful Mollymook. Provided luxury service for guests with customised cocktails, table service, and room service. Within 3 weeks of starting as a bartender and front of house, was made bar supervisor.

Selected as one of two volunteer positions for a three-month period to learn and assist the team in their efforts to develop active coral restoration techniques.- Extensive scuba diving, two dives per day five days a week, operating as a team to fix problems underwater.- Largely focused on maintenance of rope nurseries for growing corals and using piping bags of cement to transplant coral colonies. - Leveraging my engineering background, I provided systematic solutions to unusual problems, technical maintenance and data-flow automation for ongoing experiments.

Crewed fulltime on a private 17m ketch for 5 months living on the anchor performing deckhand duties, night watch, navigation, and boat maintenance.Mostly a crew of three island hopping along the coral coast of Australia and exploring the reefs away from tourist centers."Lydia has been with us for over 6 months. She came onboard as a newbie and now is a competent sailor. She is confident, a very fast learner and always eager to join in. She has sailed almost 1800nm with us to the Whitsundays, Barrier Reef and Coral Coast, including several multiple day / night passages and experiencing no wind through to storms. There was no problem leaving her on her own on the night shifts. She stays calm when things go wrong and offers logical solutions to solve problems. Part of the development engineering team of 30 at CAE Australia where I maintained high fidelity aircraft simulators for the Australian and New Zealand Defence.- First as a software and hardware engineer then as an Integration Specialist, while also being the delegate group leader when the need arose.
