Working in the digitization wing of Earl Gregg Swem Library's Special Collections as an undergraduate at The College of William & Mary gave me a passion for archives and, more specifically, the digitization workflows that make archival materials more accessible to the public. This passion led me to The University of Texas at Austin's School of Information in the fall of 2019, where I studied audio-visual media archiving and generating metadata for digital materials. In my current position as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Architecture & Planning Library, my favorite part of the job is creating the descriptive metadata for digitized materials. I love working through a text, audio-tape, or video to figure out the best ways to summarize it and what keywords to place in the description to make them as findable to users as possible.Upon graduating in May 2021, I hope to further pursue audio-visual archiving and descriptive metadata. In any professional role that I will have in the future, my commitment will always be to our users and making sure that archival materials are as accessible as possible.
