Provide operational oversight of 18 residential and home-based human service programs. Troubleshoot high risk/stakes client, program and human resource issues and develop responsive policy. Manage strategic planning, staff development and agency training programs; develop and implement policy, quality improvement initiatives and new programs. Prepare proposals for funding and grants. Directly supervise senior managers of this 400 person/20 million dollar human service non-profit organization. Serve as agency representative on state level human service initiatives including reducing reliance on physical intervention and detention.

Member of executive management staff, participating in program and policy development at all levels of this juvenile justice agency.

Taught graduate and undergraduate courses in corrections, juvenile delinquency, research methods and statistics in sociology and criminal justice.

Provided operational supervision of an institutionally-based corrections program, an alternative incarceration center, and group homes for developmentally disabled persons with profound behavioral/criminal issues. Developed winning service and grant proposals for state, county and federal agencies as well as foundations; monitored contracts and prepared reports required by funding agencies; served as the agency representative on various human service and social justice committees. Responsible for program development and start-up, including site location, staff hiring and budget development. Evaluated grant proposals to provide substance abuse treatment to offender populations (incarcerated and non-incarcerated).

Awarded this competitive fellowship to fund a full year of dissertation research and writing. This fellowship is given to four graduate students at Yale whose research promises to be policy relevant. Dissertation research focused on continuity of care as criminal offenders move from incarceration to community supervision.

Taught undergraduate criminology, supervising two teaching assistants. Prepared and taught sessions in graduate statistics, social problems and computer applications. Wrote and graded exams and homework assignments. Research Assistant, for faculty members. Conducted research in homeless shelters, prepared demographic analyses of teen parenting, investigated criminal cases for a study of the effects of enzymes on behavior.

Supervised parole operations in three state and four county correctional facilities. Supervised staff of 35 parole officers and clerical assistants. Implemented an Intensive Parole for Substance Abusers program, funded by a National Institute of Health grant ($500,000/year). Prepared and presented briefings at national criminal justice conferences. Served on state committees dealing with criminal justice issues.
